On-tap at TRB.
A: Pours a clear dark nutty brown with ruddy highlights. There's a thin cap of dense light tan foam. Rings of lace were left down the glass after each sip.
S: Nutty and roasted nose with hints of citrus rind hops and a touch of pine. Earthy smelling as well, along with maybe a touch of coffee. A lot of earth and spice comes through as the beer warms.
T: Nutty malt and hints of caramel and roast up front immediately overshadowed by bitter pine sap hops and a touch of earthy spice. I get hints of coffee (or else I've had coffee that reminds me of this) as the bitterness and nutty caramel flavors remind me of the acidity found in some coffee. The finish has a strong herbal/pine bitterness mixed with semisweet (but mostly bitter) citrus pith. The spice is peppery, rye-like, and earthy.
M: Medium body, strong bitter punch, slight acidic (not tart, acidic) and sharp mouthfeel, tingly carbonation.
O: Not as good as Tasty's, but definitely a hoppy brown. Not my favorite tho, and I probably wouldn't order this again.

Atypically hoppy for a brown ale, perfectly in line with what you expect from cellar maker. I have passed this up on other occasions and I won't do that again. Super
Tasty with great feel.

Poured from 1L Growler, filled 8-29-15 at CM. I don't usually go for brown ales but this was the best available to fill up today. Gotta say this is unique. Different from other browns in that the sweetness is much less pronounced, and the finish is dry. Which I like. Light in the mouthfeel but doesn't take away from experience. The nose on this beer is a treat. Roasted malt, brown sugar, coffee, a bit of dry hops. Taste is semisweet malt flavors, brown sugar, bitter hops. Great beer and quite happy with my growler in the fridge.

On tap at Highland Park Brewery in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours a murky orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, and roasted nut aromas. Taste is much the same with toast, caramel, and roasted nut flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of toast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is quite roasty all around.
Serving type: on tap.
