English IPA. Brewed with English pale malt and crystal malts, hopped with East Kent Golding, Saaz and Tettnang hops and fermented with an English ale yeast, this beer harkens back to where our fascination with hops began. Come try it and learn something! 65 IBUs

not a style of beer i am generally overly stoked on, it takes a good one to get me off, and this certainly is an excellent take on the style. i think its cool to experience these hops as the star of the show, they are usually only in a supporting role somewhere behind maris otter malt in an esb or something, lost to a bready lager yeast strain in a pils, its fascinating and delicious to have them heavily dosed and right up front, it gives me a new appreciation for these old world hops, really nice use of them here. i also think the beer is a success because it avoids a few of the usual pitfalls. the first and most important of those is the malt base. these often get too heavy on the caramels and crystals, and it covers up the more delicate hops. this is a pale beer all the way, none of the copper color or heavier sweeter malt flavor, a real success and a way better platform to experience these hops, at least in my opinion. the yeast too isnt so aggressively english, its still fresh and flavorful, but it doesnt take over and it doesnt produce any of the metallic or tannic properties we often see in imports of this style. i liked this a lot for being something different, like an improvement upon a style that hasnt evolved much in a real long time. flawlessly executed.
