Stopped in here after City Beer Store since it is right around the corner. I had heard great things from the guys at TH so I was really looking forward to checking this place out. Atmosphere was quite good. Stopped in just after they opened and there was already plenty of people around the bar area and at the tables. Service was great. Bartenders were awesome, we never had to wait more than a minute or two for a new beer. Quality was top notch across the board. Selection was great. 10 beers on, two kicked, and one leftover cask from the night before. My favorite was Jezebel and the cask, both of which were awesome. No food so no rating there. Prices were a little high for my tastes, we were only getting the 5oz pours and some were $4 a piece. It was almost $30 to try them all. Overall an awesome brewpub in the heart of the city. I would be a regular here if I lived in the area.

I’ve grown to enjoy my visits to Cellarmaker over the past year and change, although I’ll be the first to admit I felt somewhat ambivalent at first. I think this is a combination of working out the opening-night quirks (not technically opening night, by the way—more like the early stages when they were working things out)—like server attitude and ambiance, in subtle and not-so-subtle ways that I appreciate. I have a go-to beertender who I gravitate towards for her recommendations and raves, only because she’s yet to steer me wrong. That says a lot, especially because I am an infrequent visitor. But it’s things like that that make Cellarmaker such a treat to visit now. And the incredibly tasty beer only sweetens the deal.

The tasting room located in the SOMA district of San Francisco is a hidden gem. The word is starting to get out how good their beer are as people are coming from all over the Bay Area to experience them. Definite "beer geek" vibe, and I mean that as a positive. Very knowledgeable and friendly patrons, had a nice time talking to some on a recent visit. The space itself is a little small, and as their popularity grows I wouldn't be surprised if they needed to expand some.
They rotate about 8-10 beers on draft which you can generally get in several sizes from taster to pints depending on the brew. They are constantly changing up their line-up. Cellarmaker is very innovative, experimenting and mixing/matching various hops. They also will do things like making an APA, IPA and IIPA with similar hop profiles just changing the brewing technique. Or do single hop releases (Mt. Nelson Pale Ale comes to mind). Of the beers i've tried there hasn't been one that i didn't like and several have been just incredible. Double Dobis may be my favorite IIPA i've ever had. While they've have released many excellent beers, and while I love their experimentation and innovation, I think to get rated amongst the best they need a few flagship beers. And they are pretty young , so maybe they are still in that discovery stage, trying to craft that marquis brew. Lord knows its gonna be dank. But I want to tell my friends, get the Double Dobis at Cellar, but there's no guarantee they'll have it at that time (for example you know you can get Pliny at RRB).
They do growlers on many of their beers, but pretty much everything is on draft, they don't bottle their beers which is a little disappointing. Hopefully as they evolve this will change, as will them developing a flagship beer, which I really believe could elevate them to one of the elite brewers on the West Coast.

I went there on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm. Stepping into the place made me feel like I was back in San Diego again. Nice decor, great vibe and overall very cool setup.

Every beer I had was excellent. Love the various IPAs and pale ales, so many great combinations of hops. Everything on the menu sounded interesting and everything I tried was 4+ star quality.

Service was good, it was a little packed and probably more people than two bartenders could really handle. When they attended to us they were on top of things, answered questions and had a nice setup for samplers (my pet peeve is places that give you 5 4oz pours then expect you to remember which one is which).

Selection was okay in that everything on the menu was pretty good. It was skewed very heavily towards IPAs and pale ales. I enjoy those styles but I also love to get to try some other styles as well. I enjoyed what they had, but a wider selection would have been cool. Also, maybe make some of the beers available in bottles instead of just growler pours.

Incredible things coming from this gem of a brewery here in San Francisco. Truly fantastic beer across all styles.

Quite small and often packed, I've caught myself standing every time I've gone to visit. Great vibe & top notch service to match.

Easily accessible via public transportation, a 5-10 min walk from the Civic Center Bart/Muni stations.

Only reason I give selection a 4.75 is because there are no bottles and a lot of times, their best stuff can't be growlered....

This place is the best brewery in San Francisco currently (3/15). Its not the oldest, its not the biggest, but the beers they make are outstanding.

If you want to relax and enjoy a beer without too many people, make sure you go when they open. They get pretty crowded late in the day on weekends.

The brewery is only a block from City Beer and its pretty easy to find parking (very nice feature in the city). Pretty much all of their selection is high quality.

Friendly staff, great tap list. Only complaint was that they were not willing to open special bottles that I brought from the East Coast (maybe for legal issues). Not a big deal since its their loss.

Hands down my favorite SF brewery and perhaps favorite brewery in the Nation right now. These guys do everything well, especially their IPA's with unique New Zealand hops. They release one or two new beers each week and everything is super fresh. Coffee and Cigs is a go-to and watch out for their special barrel aged stouts and saisons. Super cool brewers and staff. Watch Giants/Warriors and listen to good music. Great location in SOMA which is easily accessible by bike or public transportation. Please…For the love of craft beer...Go there...

A popular hipster brew hangout. Not a huge tasting room but very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Good selection of beer styles and always new ones to try. This brewer knows his stuff. Everything we tried was great. They have a good setup for just sampling too.

A real nice spot much out of the way of busy market street area.

A big open space, with a very large and colorful chalkboard provides a plethora of beers for you to choose from.

They are big on IPAs here, so if that's your angle you wont be disappointied. However, there are some other styles here as well, and they are done with great care and are very good also.

Service is also great, as the busy staff still manages to take care of you as the growler fills keep coming from the customers like crazy.

Real nice stop, very good beer, and great staff, what more do you need. Could easily waste a lot of time here, and they offer different sized pours for also real cheap too. Great place.

Cool place but not a lot of space. But the place has a nice vibe and generally good parking availability for the city. Also near City Beer.

Constantly rotating beer selection (changing almost weekly), and offers great beer samplers. New building so everything is neat and clean. Staff if friendly and knowledgeable about all things beer.

Coquette is a flirt, right? That naughty little gal. I saw her on the menu eyeing me intently, ever so suggestive with her saison name.

I took the bait. I fell for her. And I fell in love.

I know most will advocate for the IPA here, but that Coquette is a true gem. She's a real beauty.

Also, if it's available, the Peach NIghtmare is a delight of a sour. Go with those two if you're tired of IPAs.

I had a stout on my visit to and wasn't blown away, but the two mentioned above are real winners.

As for the ambiance here, pretty lowkey and not particularly spacious, but that adds to the charm.

They wouldn't let me get a 1L growler of a beer that was on. From out of town, they were total dicks about the whole thing after telling me they could do it. All their ipas are good but taste the same. Way to be beer advocates.

Cool place but pretty small and kind of difficult location to get to. Their beers are solid and priced well. The growler options were limited when I went, they had 7 or 8 different beers on tap but you could only get 3 kinds to go.

Cellarmaker is one of the best brewpubs i've been to in the bay-area. Amazing beers on tap from all of the best west coast styles and others, with great descriptions and colorful presentations. A total hub for beergeeks in the city, I'll be going again whenever my time frees up to do so!

This is a great little beer spot in San Francisco.

Stopped in on a Friday night. It was busy, but not super crowded. Our party of three easily walked up and stood at the bar. The room is not large, an L-shaped bar, a few tables. It has a garage door feature that allows open air to pour in and there is a lot of dark wood, which I always find attractive in bars/restaurants. The crowd was young professional.

They were out of a few beers, but the ones they did have were all really good. They did full pints, half pints and tasters. I also saw that they do growler fills on a select few.

Service was great. Bartender was fast, attentive and engaging.

No food, but you can bring it in.

Overall, the beer is very good to outstanding, the atmosphere is excellent and reasonably priced for San Francisco.

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for a couple and was surprised by how packed it was. Despite the lack of much personal space the bartenders were attentive and fast, and there wasn't a point where I waited for a beer for more than a minute or two. Decent selection; there were about a dozen beers listed and 3 or 4 of them were kicked. Interesting crowd, it was pretty loud and young, but that didn't bother me. I'd like to check it.out again at some point when it's a little less busy but still enjoyed my experience.
