Served on-tap in an imperial pint glass at Three Notch'd tasting room (Charlottesville, VA).
A: Black with 1/2-finger of dark tan, big-bubbled head with good retention and a few streamers of lacing.
S: Big coffee-espresso aroma with dark chocolate and some dark malt roastiness. There is a bit of caramel sweetness in the aroma as well.
T: The black coffee/bitter espresso flavor is overwhelming and knocks down all of the stout quality in the flavor. The caramel and dark malt notes in the aroma are definitely lost in the flavor component of this beer. No alcohol or yeast component.
M: Very smooth milky feel with low carbonation and medium body.
O: Overboard on the coffee component, but if that was toned down sufficiently, I feel these guys could put together a coffee-forward, but better-balanced stout than this offering. I finished it, but it was a bit of work.
Serving type: on-tap
