Really get the roasted coffee notes. Don't drink a lot of stouts but smith and doesn't seem as thick/heavy

Solid American Stout. Poured from a 12 oz can into a pint glass. Dense black color with absolutely no light coming through. Big tan head, decent retention and thin bands of filmy lacing on the glass. Aroma is fairly mild but includes some bitter coffee and a bit of semi-sweet chocolate. Taste is more robust...some light roasted maltiness, chocolate and coffee are a bit stronger. Mouthfeel is a bit light but not weak. Some richness from the malt and a surprising amount of bitterness. Overall this is one is worth trying. Good job!!!

This is a review of the canned beer.

Appearance: Dark black body with an extremely creamy luscious khaki head that stays up for a long time. Good lacing. It looks perfect.

Aroma: A bit of a coffee aroma. Slight metallic tinge.

Taste: There is a nice mellow roasted bitter flavor, some coffee, and a bit of burnt charcoal but not acrid or overpowering. It is a very mellow stout.

Mouthfeel: It has a very good mouthfeel. I wouldn't call it full bodied, but just on the lower edge. It is extremely drinkable.

Overall: I liked it. I was a good simple easy to drink stout. I would pick it up again.

While not explicitly a coffee stout, this beer has a smooth coffee flavor.

A - Pitch black, small head, decent amount of lacing.

S - Very nice aroma of bitter coffee, milk chocolate, well done.

T - Bitterness comes through and would do well to have a bit more booze warmth. Still pretty tasty. Grows on you.

M - Probably the one weakness. A tad thin. Contrasts to the fullness of the smell.

O - A nice beer for such a young brewery. Makes the future promising.

This is perhaps my favorite beer from these guys and it surprised myself. First things first, if I had to classify this beer myself I'd be inclined to call it a porter or milk stout as it definitely is lighter than your average stout (and I can't remember if it is labeled an imperial stout at the brewery or not, but if it is that is a big mistake). Like a kid with a sweet tooth I prefer porters and sweet (milk and oatmeal as well) stouts to their bigger, heartier brethren. This is a light bodied brew with a good balance of dark chocolate and coffee, although it's more like java it's so light. The malts are light in this beer but there's enough here, including some breadiness, to prevent this from being bland and watery and it has a good dry finish. If you like porters or light stouts give this one a try.
