A toast lager with notes of chocolate and coffee. Unlike a heavy porter or a stout it’s amazingly light, crispy, and sessionable. KCCO Black is a delicious misfit.

I'm a fan of the Chive and my dad really wanted to try this so I picked up a six pack.

A - Nice black color with a white head. Very similar to Guinness.

S - Roasty smell with some coffee/malt and some lager yeast tones.

T - A subtle mixture of roasted malt and lager taste. No real hops to this beer just the dark malt flavors that come through. The characteristic lager flavor is also present but isn't as predominant as a Budweiser. Reminds me of a Guinness with the lager taste added to it and the sour/acrid flavor removed. The bitterness from the roasted malt compliments the sweetness of the malt to make this beer a good example of a traditional Schwartz beer.

M - Light mouth-feel with not much aftertaste. The bitterness and light body make this beer finish crisp allowing you to drink more. Moderate carbonation making it come alive on your tongue.

Overall, it was a nice beer if you want to try a darker beer but not be laden down with the bitterness of a traditional stout. Like I said it is a little like Guinness but is definitely drinkable on a warm summer day. It isn't the best Schwartz beer I've had but I would recommend it to those who are the typical light lager drinker that wants to appreciate beer for taste rather than getting drunk.

Nothing i wished for in a beer i dreamed about. Huge hype around this beer begin as its the beer of The Chive, cracked the bottle and immediately got smacked with a delightful smell of bold dark flavors and hints of coffee, but the taste dosnt compare, leaves you wanting more, wishing it had that one last thing to make it a great beer. It begs for a bite at the end and it dosnt deliver. and to add to the all around flavor its flat as a pancake. very let down by this beer. (477 characters)

Good beer. I'll have one if its on a menu and nothing else appeals. Not too bad. (80 characters)

Pours a very nice clean/clear dark golden brown color, very nice carbonation, with a nice one-finger fizzy light tan head, with some nice sticky lacing, which disappated quickly. The nose is malty. The taste is malty, not much going on with this one, watery. Light body, with a slightly dry/bitter finish. Overall, too macro for me. (332 characters)

I like this beer. Nice toasty flavor, light on the palate, but plenty of flavor. Not overly complex, but interesting enough to keep your attention. A solid and satisfying beverage. (180 characters)

HOME RUN. Walk the line between a porter and lager. Fantastic all around winter beer. (85 characters)

12 oz bottle dated May 2014.

Poured near black but clear reddish-brown, topped by a very good tan head that leaves nice lacing.

Aroma: a bit herbal, vegetal and hop dominated with too little from dark malts -- clearly off style.

Flavor: better and truer to style, but lacks the level of dark roasted grain expected.

Feel: a bit thin even for style. Medium carbonation.

O: OK, excepting aroma, but a notch below average for style overall. (447 characters)
