Canned 1/20/20
It's always nice to offset typical lighter summer beers with something rich and malty, and I knew this would do the job just fine
Pours a cloudy mahogany with less than a finger of off white head that reduces to a ring. No lacing, and there is some particulate floating about
Sweet caramel primarily in the nose, with rich peat, dark fruit, and a touch of chocolate malts. Alcohol is mildly perceptible
The taste begins with rich toffee and malt, before being smoothed over by layers of smoke, chocolate, and raisins. Extremely rich in nature, there is a lot going on here. Minor notes of oak, tobacco, and coffee all add to the overall taste
This is actually pretty light bodied given the taste. Very light carbonation and finishes quite dry and full with sweetness and a slight alcohol burn
This was a damn good detractor from the lighter beers I've had lately. I will continue to drink these hefty, malt-forward beers well into the summer to keep things interesting. Very good stuff here

16oz can, best by date 7/02/19. Picked it up partially because of the very competitive price, which I think was around $10/4pk16ozers.
Beautiful clear mahogany body with a cream colored head that sticks around and sticks around. Big floaties come with the last of the pour. Smells of prunes, molasses, tobacco, and a little band-aid. Big body, but not overly sweet, just creamy. Taste hits big with raisins at first, then a bit of alcohol sting creeps in along with a dirty leather. Earthy with a surprisingly balanced bitterness at the end. This is a pretty good brew in one of my favorite styles, but the flavor profile just doesn’t work for me.
Musical Equivalent: Mastodon - “Crack the Skye”

A medium-strong pour from a 16-oz. can yields a finger of beige creamy froth with average retention and scant lacing. Hazy translucent chestnut reddish brown with ruby highlights.
Sweet smell of caramelized sugar, sweet malt with an earthy wood background.
The taste is semi-sweet with moderate bitterness. Malty rich from caramel and sweet malt. Cooked plums and prunes in the background with baking spice, and faint smoked peat.
Bitterness builds during the semi-dry finish with a light astringency during the aftertaste.
Medium plus bodied, ample carbonation in reserve. Malty smooth and soft.
Lots of different flavors in this one, alcohol is well hidden.

Poured into a thistle, the appearance was a ruddy burnt amber color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that slid off at a decent pace. Sly messy lace. The aroma had a good assortment of peat, smoke, sweet meat, wood, caramel/toffee malt, leather, some earthiness, dried leaves, and a light contour of bread. The flavor was moderately sweet with the earthiness and smoke coming in to try and balance. Smoke to malty sort of aftertaste and finish. The palate was almost medium bodied with a good sessionability about it. Low carbonation with a good ABV. Pretty smooth to the touch along my tongue. Overall, pretty good as a Scotch ale, could have a bit more herbal quality that I normally get in the style, but still do-able enough to have again.

Scored a 22oz bottle last week, and am diving in now after a bit of shoveling.... The name Drookit reminds me of a lovely small village near Inverness, Scotland, on the shores of Loch Ness - Drumnadrochit.
Poured into a small tulip, it is a clear, deep ruby/garnet hue. Has a bit of very fine particulate hovering about, but that doesn't detract from a lovely looking brew. Head is quite thin, a fine layer of beige bubbles up top; lacing is a bit on the light side. Smell has some rich caramel, dark bread and a hint of peat. Body is just edging into the medium range; would like it fuller, personally. It is rather smooth on the tongue, though.
Flavor follows on the heels of the aroma... Caramel malt, brown sugar and brown bread flavors caress the palate.
Has a hint of sweetish dark fruit (dates and raisins) plus a subtle touch of smoky, peaty malts. This is a solid, tasty Scotch... Cheers!!

Poured a cloudy caramel color with a 2F head in a Gordon Scotch Ale glass.
Aroma: smoky, very fruity, candy sweet. Very well-done. I especially enjoyed the smoke,
which can be a less common or pronounced aroma in American-brewed Scotch ales.
Lighter body which suits the flavor profile of the beer.
Taste: follows the aroma. Dates, raisins, candy, finished with a sharp bitterness.
This is a very nuanced, complex Scotch Ale. Subtle balance of flavor. The smoke enhances the character of the beer. There seems to be a stronger peaty smoked malt presence than in other American brewed beers in the style. This West Mass brewery is a real gem.

Poured on tap at the Holy Grail in Laconia NH into a 12 oz snifter. Pours a rusty brownish red, with a two inch off white head that leaves behind some nice wisps of lace.
Smell is peat, carmel, smoke, biscuit, bubble gum, and toffee notes.
Taste follows smoky peat throughout, vanilla, oak, biscuit, caramel, and toffee all in a supporting role at best.
Mouthfeel is mediumish, enough carbonation, not dry, and drinkability is good if you like smoke and peat.
Overall this is a solid wee heavy, maybe a little over the top and some dimensions, but good brew.

BERKSHIRE DROOKIT SCOTCH ALE 2/26/16
Poured from the 22 oz. bomber into a Lawson's stemmed tulip.
a: Clear copper with a 3/4 inch offwhite head which receded to thin surface foam with a ring and dense to spotty lacing.
s: Caramel malt and alcohol
t: Follows the nose with some bite, dark fruit notes and then smoke following. Sweetish finish. Later the fruit notes come to dominate slightly and the smoke dissipates. The nearly 8% ABV becomes better covered as it warms.
m: On the light side of medium, good body and large carbonation tingle.
o: Initially a complex-tasting Scotch ale, the malt is a bit muted in favor of plumlike notes. Fairly easy drinking and enjoyable and a very good value at the $5 pricepoint I paid.
