Pours a hot summers day in the city hazy. Golden straw color with a slight orange hue. Frothy one and a half finger head holds nicely with a thin skim on top. Tight lacing down the glass. Banana and clove spices are refreshing and not overpowering. Wheat and grass notes play a secondary role but round out the aromas. Starts of thick and hefty, but ends with a thinness. Aromatic.

Slightly thin with a lageresque mouthfeel and taste. Wheaty flavors with cloves and slight pepper and a twinge of banana notes. watery on the palate with a bready lager finish and aftertaste. A bit too thin for the style. Almost wants to be a hybrid American wheat hefe with a tiny bit of lager in there. Not very complex or imaginative. Not the best offering I've had from Berkshire and one I'd pass on in favor of a bigger fuller hefe.

12 oz brown bomber with no freshness date.

A- The head looks like tidal foam left in the sand ... great retention. Hazed gold with a tinge of orange.

S- Starchy banana, bubble gum phenols and faded clove. Lots of fresh wheat malt as well.

T&M- Watery lemon, juicy fruit bubble gum and faint clove up front. Crisp and smooth medium body ... refreshing. Phenols are pretty strong with a medicinal flavor with more bubble gum in the end. Hint of ripe bananas mix with the maltiness.Finishes semi-dry.

D- Not a bad stab at the style, I'll certainly try this again next summer.

I was thirsty and it was refreshing! Ahh the mark of a good summer brew! I had this on tap at a local tavern. It's a cloudly, crisp golden color in the glass. There was about a finger and a half of white head. It left minimal lacing as I drank. The smell is floral and grassy, as a hefeweizen should be! The taste has citrus undertones that were not overpowering but the taste doesn't knock your socks off either. It's smooth going down with moderate carbonation at the beginning of the sip and mellowing out toward the end. It's an easy beer to drink and finish quickly without it hitting too hard.

From a bottle into a weizen glass.

Pours a lighter golden color with a great head and lacing. Opaque from the cloudiness.

Nice aroma of crisp wheat and undertones of weizen yeast.

Really surprised here. The other reviews called this one weak, but it was actually pretty darn tasty. Nice wheat tang yields to strong yeast flavors of fruit, banana, and clove; all balanced. Nothing too strong or weak.

Nice light mouthfeel and refreshing carbonation.

Wow, really drinkable and a great beer from a great brewery. Add this hefeweizen to my summer beer fridge rotation!

Poured from the bottle into a weisen glass

A- banana yellow and cloudy with a big white head.

S- big big banana/ clove smell. tons of nose on this beer

T- banana in the begining and in the end. A bit tarter than I expected. Very bold banana taste which differs from the more subdued taste found in german hefes

M- balanced with a bit more carbination than I expected

D- not as refreshing as I would have liked from this style and the banana flavor is too " in your face".

notes- overall a decent beer from one of my favorite american brewerys.

Pour was a nice golden hue with very little foam. The bouquet was more than perfect. Then the actual first taste was more than I anticipated. Honestly, I am not a big BBC fan, but this is one that I really LIKE

The wheat and hops was perfectly balanced and the mouthful was full of spices, orange, coriander, nutmeg and more

Nothing over the top, just a great balance between wheat, hop and spices.

A super summer brew

Berkshire- Hefeweizen

Thanks to Shaebs99(Steven) for this bomber!

A- Bright hazy yellow with a big billowy white head. Light lacing down the glass.
S- Light lemon zest, wheat, wet hay/ straw, and a dash of clove.
T- Sweet lemon, honey, and fresh banana. Good dry, slightly funky, hay/ straw. Light touch of clove dusts this one.
M- Sweet and full bodied. Dry and crisp in the end.

Overall- My 2nd official beer from Berkshire, not counting samples from a beerfest and another tasty offering. I had a bottle of Shabadoo last year. This 1 was light but crisp and enjoyable. (Thanks Steven!)

Originally reviewed on May 21, 2006. Julios Spring Beer Festival. Extremely phenolic aroma packed with the typical esters and clove-lemon profile. Pour of half clouded yellow, slicked with white. Flavor is very thin to me. A distant glow of lemons over some spicy yeasts. A touch of breadiness. Overall, a little too light and thin. Although, this would probably be highly refreshing. Smack of apples.

A 22 oz bottle courtesy of Dr Dogbeer. A hazy gold liquid that creates a three finger head in my weiss beer glass. Nice amounts of lacing and good retention. It slowly settles into a thin covering of bubbles and sits atop an actively carbonated brew.

Smell is bananas and lemon. Bready notes , yeasty esters of apple mix with the other fruits and cloves.

Taste is tart with wheat malt and sour apple. Bananas at the back of the throat. Lemon interleaves through it all. Hop bittering is a touch more prominent than in most hefes but certainly not out of line. A slightly soapy facet cuts in and out. Finish is clean, dry, and crisp. A lingering taste of crackers and faint bubblegum.

Mouthfeel is lively and crisply carbonated with a fine coating of the mouth and tongue.

Drinkability is nice. A refreshing beer and one that I would have no problems quaffing for long periods.

Overall a good solid effort and one I wound never turn down.

BBC does such a fantastic job with their seasonals; this one may be one of the best yet. They seem to have stayed with the traditional style, very European in taste. Has similar characteristic to a mild Belgian Ale. The only area this beer lacks serious characteristic is in its appearance. No frothy head, and not very deep character in its body. Big musty blast, with floral hints on the nose. Big time fruits on the tongue, pear, and granny smith apples, simply wonderful.

The first "5" I've given in the drinkability category. Simply put, the beer goes down like water. No ABV listed, I guess not very high, but this sucker is tasty.

Poured from the supremely affordable 22oz bomber into a pint glass.

Pours hazy medium amber. Foam dissolves almost completely, depending on the velocity of the pour. Foam dissolves almost completely. Quite picturesque. Wheaty smell, faint banana. Much more minor than I expected for a Hefe.

Delicious blend of wheatiness, some sour, into a smooth pleasing close. The finish makes me want to start again. Holds taste nicely.

Excellent.

Appearance: Cloudy, straw, with a bloom of orange. Pretty standard unfiltered hefe look. Frightening day-glo neon green bottle. Nice fluffy head.

Smell: Banana comes through with a bit of clove, though not as overwhelming as some examples of the style. A bit citrusy--again, par for the hefeweizen course.

Taste: I have a profound weakness when it comes to authentic german wheats, as I can't hack too much phenolic character without getting queasy. This beer presents a reasonable amount of the character without going overboard, yet isn't just a plain "American" wheat (like a Harpoon UFO or Sam Adams Hefe). It strikes me as, perhaps, a good gateway beer to the more authentic German styles.

Mouthfeel: A bit thicker than some wheats, a little puckering from the citrusy character.

Drinkability: Decent drinkability... carbonation is not as high as some utilize with their wheat beers. Somewhere between a light and medium-bodied beer, so more than one isn't out the question. I certainly had no problem killing a bomber.

Pours a cloudy tan orange body with a strong pillowy soft white head. The nose is cloves, spicy aromatics, banana, and a strong orange aroma. The inital taste is smooth, starts with a wheat twang that follows with a nice honey malt balance. You can really taste the citrus upfront, orange peels, banana followed by a spicy hop kick. The feel in the finish is somewhat rough, a little too acidic not enough malt balance in the end, but very good overall.

A - Slightly more than a fingers worth of ultra pure white colored crisp head... Faint retention gives way to a thin creamy lacing... The color is vibrant golden orange with a slight haziness... Some uber speedy carbonation bubbles can be seen rising within...

S - Clove... Fresh cut grass... Lemon zest... Orange zest... Some candied sugars... Perhaps just a slight touch of banana... A bit yeasty as well...

T - Lemon... Clove... Orange zest... Grainy... A bit of yeast... A very nice earthiness... A slightly metallic tinge...

M - Medium bodied... Sturdy... Light carbonation... Smooth... Fairly crisp... Refreshing... An ever so slightly dry and bitter finish...

D - A very solid and respectable Hefeweizen and one that has an ever so slight edginess to it... At 4.5% ABV this one is highly drinkable and I would welcome it in my glass on any occasion... Quite affordable to boot... A job well done by Berkshire...

Bought the 22 oz on Spirit Haus. This was a pretty good appearance for a hefeweizen. Pretty clear, golden and bubbly; good, immediate lacing as well. Smells are pretty floral and grassy with some obvious citrus aromas. Taste is pretty zesty with its fruity, citrus and lemony dimensions. The mouthfeel was a bit over crisp, but still, nothing too overpowering. Overall, another good drink from BBC.

22 oz. bomber poured into UFO Hefe glass. No bottled on date for this one.

A: Cloudy, tan/orange with great foam, that subsides but leaves good lacing.

S: Bananas, bubblegum and citrus.

T: Bananas with slight clove. Slight bitterness on the finish.

M: Very carbonated and medium mouthfeel. Not too thick but not watery.

D: This is a very good hefeweizen in my opinion and could easily session this stuff. Too bad this does not come in growlers....or does it? I have yet to be disappointed by BBC.

Bottle: Poured a clear golden color weizen with a medium foamy head with average retention and no lacing. Aroma consists of some light banana ester with a huge amount of DMS (overcooked vegetables). Taste is also dominated by some weird overcooked vegetables notes with some light notes of banana. Extremely bad and way off style for me to enjoy. I rarely drain pour beers but this is one that I could not drink the whole bottle.

Been a challenge lately to get through anything new, but I decided to let my family have a crack at a few things this weekend and pulled a sample off of each. Part of the "Random BBQ Event" at my in laws on 07/19/2009.

Appearance - Typical very nicely done Hefe right out of the gate. Cloudy golden yellow in color with a good dose of sediment on the bottom of the bottle. Big billowing head of white coming up and over the top almost instantly, really never falling back down coating the glass all the way through. Lots of carbonation visible at all times.

Smell - Light banana and clove with lots of bready notes are easily picked up here. They fade though and a grainy and bready primary are all that is left behind. Very good, but I would have liked to see a touch more in the way of complexity.

Taste - Light bready notes lead the way and fall back on a light sour note, not sure where that comes from, but wasn't really needed. Got past it and a light grain flavor and light grassy note closed it out, not bad, but different,

Feel - Good feel, light, well carbonated and very refreshing, crisp, clean and smooth. Just what it should be.

Drinkability - very nice on a hot day. No issues here at all. If the taste was abit more in line this one it would have been superb.

Overall - Again not bad, a bit above average and if looks could kill would have been a knockout but it just seemed a bit off to me, maybe next time.

On tap @ Sunset 5/29/06. Served too cold in a weizen glass.

This is a very attractive beer. It is served with a very creamy looking head above a hazy, sunny yellow. As far as taste goes, it is a pretty standard, German-style hefe. Nothing special here. There is the classic clove taste although the bananas are a bit muted by the cold. It goes down nicely.

L: Pours a nice orange-yellow color with a tall and thick bodied white colored head that laces the glass some on the way down.
S: Smells of very sweet malts a hint of citris, and then a nice banana aroma, followed by a hint of clove.
T: Tastes the same as it smells with a nice wheaty malty base with a nice hint of citrisy hops, then a good banana and clove flavor to round it off.
M: Very smooth, inviting, with the right amount of carbonation.
D: Very drinkable beer. None of the tastes were overpowering and it blended very nicely together.
