Serving: Sampler at Supreme Liquor in Central Square, MA
Served: 19 September 2014

Appearance: Nice and deep copper-brown color, darker than most other in the style. Pours with a white, foamy head that dissipates quick though this could have been from the glass. 4/5

Smell: Smells sweet and caramelly, without being overboard. Some good bready notes in the nose too, with a strong emphasis on dark wheat breads or something like that. 4/5

Taste: Wow, really marvelous flavor! Not like many other US-brewed Oktoberfestbiere I've had. This one is not perfectly to style-it's much too abrasive in some respects-but it is certainly a much better Oktoberfest than what's brewed by other, larger MA based breweries. The beer is dominated by the caramel malt flavors, but has a really pronounced edginess to it, which the representative chalked up to its being lagered. I've never had a lagered beer with quite the bready edge on it as this, at least for the style. While this isn't bad, it makes it almost taste spiced even though it's not. Nonetheless, this beer is miles above other US versions of an Oktoberfest beer without relying on 'innovation'. One major thing- the malt sweetness in this beer really reminds me of a Maibock...and so does the ABV. 4.25/5

Feel: Really excellent carbonation and body. 4.25/5

Overall: An extremely well done Oktoberfest, and one I really look forward to having again. I'll need to pick up a whole bottle of this and see how the edginess asserts itself when served in a proper glass and whatnot, or over time as it ages. Would highly recommend. 4/5

A: crystal clear; bronze colored; 1 finger pillowy khaki head that receded slowly to a thin ring; nice lacing;

S: toasty malt, caramel, earthy hops;

T: all malt until the finish; a little boozy at mid-palate; fairly bitter finish for the style;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation;

O: I was surprised at the booziness since the ABV isn't all that high; the finish is more bitter than most and I enjoyed that;
