Served in a pint glass at Woody's.

Appearance: A one finger mocha head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pitch black color with no vision of anything. Nice lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Roasted coffee, earthy, bittersweet chocolate, and slight toasted, bready, caramel, toffee, and smokey notes in the rear.

Taste: Coffee and chocolate up front with everything else in the rear.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, silky, smooth, mild bitterness, medium bodied, and medium carbonation.

Overall: Pretty solid porter. One of my local favorites for this style.

Serving: In a sampler at Supreme Liquors in Central Square
Served: 19 September 2014

Appearance: Pours a nice dark brown with a dirty brown head. The head didn't stick around long but it could have been from the size of the sampler glass. 4/5

Smell: Strong notes of coffee with some mild sweetness there too. Almost smells like coffee ice cream. 4/5

Taste: Wow, really awesome flavor on this one. While the coffee in the beer is obviously one of the primary draws, it isn't dominating. Instead, I got a nice balance between coffee and maltiness, and even a nice assertion of smokiness on the back end, from the roasted malt. Really superbly done. 4.25/5

Feel: Nice and full on the tongue without being thick. Good carbonation gives it just enough liveliness to carry the beer on the palate without being too effervescent for the style.

Overall: A really great beer that I would highly recommend. A easy drinking coffee flavored beer that doesn't beat you over the head with anything. Outstanding. 4/5

On nitro, this brew is jet black topped with a full, creamy tan head with excellent retention.

Not much aroma pops through; fairly classic stout porter notes, mostly roasted barley, dark, overripe fruit, and some coffee.

I didn't get much coffee flavor in the first sip, but it definitely built throughout the sitting. The dominant character is simply roasted barley, but it's very well balanced in this beer, with virtually no sour fruit presence.

Creamy, full mouthfeel. Very drinkable porter.

This is an excellent porter, right up my alley. I wouldn't exactly grab it looking for a coffee stout; rather, the coffee flavor lends itself to the overall character of the beer.
