On tap at the brewery the other day.

The beer pours a darkish brown color with fairly decent head retention and light lacking. The is OK I guess. I'm picking up a lot of roasted malt and coffee, with some hints of underlying burnt toast and licorice. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this light, fairly simply porter. As with the nose, the coffee and roasted malt flavors dominate in this fairly dry porter. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, with short, dry finish. Alcohol, what there is of it, is well integrated into the flavor profile.

i know these guys for highly innovative and experimental beer, so its interesting to have something a little more basic. nothing in the ingredient list too far out there here, but it is a rather well executed take on an american porter, nice as a nightcap or after dinner drink, also quite on point as a morning drink. versatile i suppose is what i am getting at here. its a little sweeter in nose and taste than some, i dont think it has milk sugar or anything in it, but it very obviously has a bigger caramel malt middle. there is enough robust dark grain, bitter unmalted barley some some special dark roast that balance it out just fine though, leaving this a pretty heavy brew overall in terms of both weight and flavor. balance but very bold. dark chocolate and chocolate silk pie come to mind in the flavor, a little honey graham cracker thing too. plenty of bitterness later on though, some hops for sure, which come out of nowhere but finish this off really nicely. smooth in the mouthfeel, a tad heavy in the gut, but a tasty porter overall.
