This Imperial IPA is named after one of the twin stars known as Pollux in the constellation Gemini. For our Pollux Imperial India Pale Ale, Amarillo, Azacca, MOsaic, Simcoe, Calypson and Columbus hops were used. They give Pollux a tropical hop flavor and aroma with hints of orange and grapefruit.

Attractive dark orangey amber brew with plenty of foam in the Stella Artois goblet. Aroma of tangerine peel. Sharp mouthfeel with a cedary tang. Rich and fruity with an acidic touch.

Amarillo, Azacca, Citra, and Columbia hops are used. The aroma is vast and intense. Orange marmalade and grilled mango. The flavor is full of spices along with citrtus. Fairly bitter but so spicy with the interesting hop mix. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Chuck’s Market in Seattle.

Look: It pours dark golden with a creamy yellow head. The head has good retention and there is a fair amount of lacing.

Smell: The aromas are dominated by floral and citrus.

Taste: The flavors are highlighted by the hops. Flavors include floral, citrus, stone fruit, and a solid malt backbone.

Feel: It is medium bodied and has a long lasting bitter finish. The finish is a bit harsh with the bitterness.

Overall the aromas and flavors are dominated by the hops, but does have a good malt backbone.

This one is a decent DIPA. The smell is fantastic with a lot of citrus, especially pineapple or starfruit. The feel is pretty silky. The taste is very floral with some bitterness on the end. Citrus, pineapple, grapefruit, starfruit, maltiness. So far all the Ecliptic beers I've tried have been really good.

No bottling date except '2016 Edition'. Since this is a fall release, I have to assume it's at least vaguely fresh.

Appearance - Pours slightly hazy and coppery orange in color with an off-white, finger width head. Good retention, then dies to a thin, broken layer of suds across the top. Lacing consists of spotting and a few broken lines.

Smell - Definite citrus on the nose with light spice and mango, along with a subtle caramel malt undertone. Hints of floral character.

Taste - Lots of citrus as the nose suggests, mostly coming through with pithy grapefruit and orange bitterness, along with a solid spice bite and quite a bit of earthy, woody character. Caramel malts and a hint of bread come through near the end, particularly as the beer warms, before pine, earth and citrus pith bitterness dominates the finish and leaves quite a bitter aftertaste, mostly like chewing on pure grapefruit pith.

Mouthfeel - Near full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Slightly chalky texture. Drinks easy enough, leaving a slight warming sensation in the belly.

Overall - Decent DIPA, but probably a bit too bitter for its own good. Only 80 IBU's, but drinks like it's teetering on that 110-120 range, and this is coming from someone who's well-attuned to high IBU brews. Pulling the bitterness back a bit would help this go a long way.

Deep amber colored, hazy, with a tan, foamy head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is citrus, tropical fruit and caramel malt. Butterscotch and floral notes as well. The flavor is grapefruit and pine. Very thick and resinous mouthfeel. Hop heavy in the finish, with a bitterness that lingers. A decent beer overall.

On-tap at Bailey's Taproom, Portland, OR

A: The beer is crystal clear amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high beige head that consistently coated the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of tropical fruit hops are present in the nose along with notes of oranges.
T: The taste generally follows the smell, and has flavors of tropical fruits along with notes of citrus and hints of caramel malts. There is only a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and somewhat crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This isn't a bad Double IPA—it has a good amount of hop flavors and does a good job masking its alcohol.

i always wonder if you have two double ipas in a row, if the first one is the better one more often than not. the palate gets used to it, and the second one tastes inferior. its a theory, and i may be guilty of that with this one, as i had a delicious beer in the same style right before it, and still really dug this a lot, but it didnt quite impress me as much as i hoped it would. it has a redder malt base to it, and lots of body from it. the hops are really northwest in style, bitter and woody and piney all at once. that trio suggests centennial to me, although there are undoubtedly quite a lot of hops in here. similar in varietals i think, but maybe unique in the way they are put together. good bitterness to this, but its very balanced with the richer grain bill. i love the way this is so creamy, not oily or sweet like others can be, especially from this region of the country, its fluffy and expansive and awesomely carbonated, a nice change of pace and this beers greatest success in my opinion. a little wet paper flavor later on in the mix here, and a somewhat yeasty finish for the style, but overall one of the better beers i have had from these guys. cool their beer has come around so fresh and affordable too. this was on tap yesterday afternoon at falling rock.
