Growler from Bestway in Greensboro, NC

A: Pours a clear almost opaque very dark brown in color with light amounts of gentle visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and some reddish brown highlights. The beer has a half finger tall foamy beige head that reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of vanilla with a light amount of something slightly artificial and a hint of roasted malts.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of very lightly roasted malts with some moderate flavors of artificial vanilla extract.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly thin.

O: This beer sounds really great in description but unfortunately the vanilla tastes artificial and hints of iodine make this one a little less enjoyable than it could have been. Not sure I would grab another one of these but glad that I was able to check out this newer brewery.

Poured on-tap at the brewery and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a dark, brown to black coloring with a thin, light tan ring of head. Nose of rich vanilla, subtle booze, and chocolate. Smooth and balanced. Flavors are vanilla forward, with a healthy chocolate backbone. Very sweet and smooth. Light, creamy body. The aftertaste is a vanilla and chocolate blend, with a smooth, clean finish. Great beer.

A - Deep mahogany with thin white head and little lacing left on the glass.

S - Vanilla extract, roasted malt, and a little booze.

T - Vanilla upfront, especially in the beginning when you taste part of the head. Roasted malt presence, and a moderate hops come through as well. The vanilla is obvious here, which I would expect being called "Thrilla in vanilla."

M - Medium-bodied. There is carbonation, but I describe this one as being more smooth-textured than carbonated, though it's a close-call.

O - I thoroughly enjoy the unique characteristics of this porter. Double Barley has a bright future in NC brewing.

Very smooth and rich. Full of flavor. A serious porter. Vanilla and coffee aroma. Thick head that really lasts! I think the foam could stand up without a glass! Liked it better on tap than the 22 oz bottle. They just started bottling and it sells out fast. My first review!!!!
