Dark, lacy, very malty resulting from malted barley.

Had on-tap at the brewery... poured into a tulip.
L: Nearly black pour with 1 finger of dark head. Nice ring of lacing. Not much light getting through this one.
S: Muted... some roast character and cocoa.
T/F: Roasted grains... some dark sugars, chocolate, and coffee notes. Dark fruit in the background. Thick bodied.. hides the booze reasonably well. Sticky on the tongue.
O: A pretty average Russian Imperial. Decent flavor but I've had way better. I'd definitely drink it again, and probably one of the better 'Happy Valley' brews I've sampled.

Sitting at the brewery enjoying this on tap, like many of the happy valley beers I have tried this one really sneaks up because it hides the alcohol well for a ten percent beer. It came with a one inch maple colored head which quickly dwindled to 1cm. Not quite black but I see no light through the glass. Very little smell. I taste cherries and a tingle on the tongue similar to some Belgian quads, very little smell stands out. I'm ordering another just to make sure. I enjoyed the second as much as the first.

Had on draft at the brewery. Really smooth and well balanced, with well hidden alcohol. Nothing that really stands out either, but still a solid brew.
