Great on site brewed beers and an eclectic menu with everything - they focus on beef and pork

How did I end up here? I think a fellow beer advocate recommended this place… so I went there on a mini-tour of Hudson Valley spots (other stops included North River and 2 Way). Mill House is a serious brewpub- their building is big and beautiful, their bar is ample and their beer and food options are large. They mean business here!

I sat at the bar on a weekday at lunch time; some folks were partying on the other side of the bar but otherwise it wasn’t busy. Ten beers on tap, I chose a flight of five for twelve dollars: Zoe (dubbel), Kilt (oak-aged Scotch), Cien Cerezas (sour-leaning anniversary ale), Northwest (DIPA), Pandemonium (Imperial Stout). The DIPA and the Imp Stout were fantastic, but the rest were only OK.

Great bartender, super friendly but not overbearing, offered tastings of some beers for free (Velvet Panda and Velvet nitro). The food menu is fancy but so meat-centric it hurts. For somebody like me on a plant-based diet, it was almost overwhelming. All sausage, chicken, animal protein… about the only veggie option was a kale salad, which I ordered and loved. The kale was some local, weird variety I had never seen and it was served with a pad-thai-style peanut dressing to die for.

Expensiv e overall, but well worth. I look forward to checking out the new beers here.

Went for Valentine's Day with another couple, arrived 45 minutes early for reservation but was seated right away. Two servers filled our water immediately but it took a long time for them to take our drink order, would of had an extra round. When drinks arrived we placed food orders and everything went smoothly from there. Food was excellent and beer was fine, the Panda-monium IRS is fantastic but the Old Steady IPA is on the level of my extract homebrew. Will certainly return as the food exceeds the beer.

There is a big difference in the quality of the beer from when MIll House first opened to now. I meant to sample a number of different beers on my last visit, but got stuck on the Northwestern DIPA. Why switch when there is something that good to drink. I did try a few others, thanks to generosity of friends, and they were also very good. The food is always very creative and very good. Only downside is that the service is often hurried, which is probably a result of the place always being busy.........

Great beer, great atmosphere. More than just a brewery. As a Poughkeepsie local, we're lucky to have a facility such as the Mill House. Can't wait for the Velvet Panda to be back on tap!

Stopped by after walking over the Hudson. What an awesome place, well designed and appointed. They had seven beers on tap, all well described on a classy beer menu, listing ABV, IBU and SRM of each beer. The latter was new to us. We are oriented toward the more malty beers. The Kilt Spinner was superb, dark, rich and a 22IBU. The Velvet Panda on Nitro is their Guinness-like beer and was decent. The food choices were excellent, well described and very tasty. The hotdogs, sausages are all made in house and are excellent. Additionally, the service was something not to be commented on. Staff was pleasant, knowledgeable about food and beer and prompt in their delivery of food and beer. Food pricing was decent. Beers were $6 to $8, which we central PA folk felt a little pricy, especially the $8 Kilt Spinner. We will try to make excuses to return, excellent establishment.

After a lovely drive through the crappy section of Po'keepsie, you easily see the new stone building with a decent sized parking lot that was packed. The bar on the right is split into two C's with a wall running down the middle. The granite topped bar can fit about 10 folks on each side. Plenty of hi top tables and booths throughout the place. Open kitchen to the left of the entrance and a deli setup for food to go I guess.

During my trip there were 7 beers on draft covering several styles. I had the pale ale and amber which were both good. They also had a DIPA, Vienna, Stout, and Scottish Ale available.

The pizza I had was very good, and service was prompt and friendly despite the large crowd. Overall this was a pleasant break during a long afternoon drive. I will stop by here again in the future when I am in the area.

Stopped in while waiting for my wife at a baby shower and was happy I did. The beer at Mill House was solid. The head brewer was sitting at the bar while I was there and was very friendly. He even pour me an aged Kilt Spinner that was amazing. The food is also a must try. I would recommend the Thai Sausage Bahnmi which was one of the best I have had. Definitely a must visit if in the area.

Stopped here for lunch on our way to Hyde Park. Loved the building and decor of the restaurant. upscale rustic elegance. Quality in every way was wonderful. Service was friendly, helpful and reasonaby fast. The beer selection was mostly their beers and although they were very good the selection could be more creative. The guys had a Rye IPA and Velvet Panda and they both thought the beers fantastic. I had the Mesculn salad and a side of duck fat french fries. Both were excellent. The guys had the Banh Mei sandwich and were very satisfied with it. The prices on both beer and food was a little high. We would go back again if we're ever in the area.

This was stop #2 on a 6 brewery trip in the Hudson Valley. I split a flight of all their beers with my girlfriend and we were both impressed. All the beers were above average for their style with my favorites being the Old Steady Rye IPA and the Velvet Panda stout. We visited some great breweries but we all agreed the beer and atmosphere was best at Mill House. Brewmaster Larry Stock was grabbing a drink and even took a few minutes to talk about brewing with us. Very friendly guy that gave us some great recommendations for the rest of our trip. Now I need to go back to try the food and some new beers. Best full flight of brew pub beer I've ever had in NY.

Have been to the Mill House numerous times now. The place is really nicely done. Beautiful really. The atmosphere and food are very good. The wings, sausages, pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, pretty much everything we have eaten has been really good.

Now about the beer. They have a good selection of their own beers, plus guest taps of some of the local brews. Have tried all of the house beers and they are of good quality, but...they don't have an IPA in the regular lineup. We did get to have it once here, and we liked it. Yes they have a black IPA, of their own, and a pale ale. Maybe they should carry one on their guest taps.

Lastly, service. At the bar. I can't quite put my finger on the problem. There are maybe too many bartenders. As you sit with an empty glass at times and there are four bartenders and a barback, you can't help but wonder why your glass would ever be empty. In addition, when you ask for water with your beer, it shouldn't be taken away after the first one, refills should be offered. We like most of the bartenders very much, so that's not it. Something for the owners to figure out though.

I do recommend the Mill House Brewing Co. It is a nice addition to Poughkeepsie. I hope it continues to grow and be successful and maybe eventually have and IPA in the regular lineup.
