Appearance: dark deep mahogany color with a 1" head that lasted a long time. Plenty of lace sticks to the glass.

Smell: loads of malt sweetness and some fruitiness rise from the glass.

Taste: big bready malt presence. Caramel, toffee, some hints of dark fruit sweetness, and some floral hop tones come through late.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp at the start, smoother at the finish. Short lasting aftertaste.

Overall: this is a good example of an Irish Red as it is not over hopped like so many others. Can drink a few of these in a session.

Decent malt forward red but the taste dies off quick. Not much else going on.

Had this up at the Cloverleaf last week for the first time. Big mistake on my part thinking that this beer was Irish and it wasn't until I spoke to one of the bartenders there that I found out that this was locally brewed. While not outstanding or memorable, this was a session-style beer that went down easily and stayed true to form. I didn't drink a lot for Saint Patrick's Day but had I done so, I would have started out with this to go along with my meal!

This had a typical pour to it - reddish-brown, mostly clear, with a tan head that was present but not overwhelming. The aroma was sweet and there was more than enough of that flavor in the mouthfeel, along with a stickiness reminiscent of a Brown Ale. There could have been a bit more lacing on the glass as well but there was some rings present as I worked my way through this. Hints of peat came through once this warmed up along with a cloying stickiness and some dough/bread flavors that gave this a nice fullness.

Alcohol? I'm sure it was here but I never felt it and I could have easily had another in my sitting. While not the best or worst example of the style, this was good enough to make me think that it was imported and a worthy beer for this time of the year. The caramel hue and aftertaste along with the peat and slight stickiness were hallmarks of similar styles but in the end, this was a nice Irish Red from start to finish.

Appearance: Nice amber red color, good tan head, good lacing

Smell: Nice sweet malts, caramel, toffee, a little nutty

Taste: Again, nice sweet malts, good caramel and toffee flavors, a little biscuit. Some fruitiness as well as herbal hops

Mouthfeel: Medium body, crisp carbonation

Overall: An excellent brew from Rinn Duin. Very glad to see it available, this will be a nice staple.

pour into pint glass deep ruby brown colors no defined smell. taste is malty dry and an after taste of tin like malt but to me most red or brown beers have that. it was a good beer. I would buy again if i was looking for that style

St. John's pours a deep, hazy amber red with a fluffy tan head. Lacing was on par, while retention was a bit low.

The aroma was spot on with the style. Roasted caramel malts, toffee, and a touch of sweetness, mixed with earthy European hops. There was no alcohol smell, which is to be expected from a 4.90% ABV beer.

The taste followed the aroma nicely. A touch of sweetness that gets quickly overpowered by roasted caramel and toffee flavors. A little fruitiness from the hops comes through, working nicely with the malty body for a smooth taste.

As for mouthfeel, again, everything was right on par. A medium, malty body with good, crisp carbonation made for a smooth mouthfeel, not too thin, not too thick.
