Probably my favorite pale ale from Louisiana at this point. Malt is present but not overwhelming, very crisp and drinkable. Piney and citrus notes on the tongue and nose, very nice beer. I'm giving it a little ding because I did get a bit of an alcohol taste coming through, didn't expect that since this isn't a very high ABV. Still, very good, must try.

I would say this is one of the most well balanced APA's I have had but I think a lot of that is because the hoppiness is really subdued. I didn't get a lot of flavor that I expect from the style although it was a very easy drinker.

A: poured into a nonic pint glass to a slightly hazed light orange with a finger of soapy white head that has decent retention and lacing
S: smells of citrus and pine with a little sweetness
T: taste is light maltyness that is slowly replaced with a piney and floral hop character that's a little citrusy. swallow is more maltyness with a little piney and citric hop
M: fairly light on the mouth with slightly prickly carbonation and a refreshing finish
O: Pretty solid and a well crafted offering. Not as good as some but better than most.

A: Pours a slightly hazy golden orange with a nice fluffy white head that fades to a nice lace.

S: Lots of spice, pine and resin, some caramel sweetness, maybe a hint of citrus. More herbal and floral in the aroma than citrusy.

T: Flavor is good with citrus notes, pine, and a bit of spice. Malt provides a good balance with just a touch of sweetness to counter the hops.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and mild bitterness. Easy drinking and smooth.

O: A real solid pale ale here from Great Raft, my first beer from these guys. Thanks again for the can Evan!

Very drinkable APA from a brewery I wish I had more access to. Nice aroma and very refreshing finish. Second fave APA from Louisiana. Very drinkable and I would definitely buy again.

Nice! The new recipe is great. More dank and piney. And the resin really shines through. Great carb and slightly dry mouthfeel. I definitely think this is an improvement over the previous recipe, not that anything was inherently wrong with it. A GREAT example of a Louisiana APA.

Taste is very clean. Lots of tangerine, light pine, citrus, and toffee to balance it out. There is hop bite, but not aggressively so. This is one I would easily get a six of next time I am in the area.

My ratings are based on Commotion before the brewery changed the recipe without telling anyone... After the change I would Probably post 1's or 2's for one of my favorite beers.... they have transformed a nice APA with a full aroma and a nice hop taste, into an aroma blast and a taste that i can only compare to a mouthfull of body odor...

Pours to a pretty head and copper color. Hoppy aroma with spice, pine, citrus, mint and dill. Some caramel and fruit esters in the nose. Flavor is clean and light with a Belgian spiciness in there to mix it up with the malts and American hops. Good balance. Crisp finish. Mouthfeel is thin and CO2 is appropriate. Nothing really wrong with it--sure captures the zeitgeist of today's American craft beer tastes (Belgian character... Check. Piney west coast hops... Check.). Personally, it does not excite me much and does not stand out.

Great Raft Commotion APA has a very thick, frothy, off-white head, a clear, golden appearance, with some bubbles and tiny specs suspended throughout, and heavy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is pungent: white bread, piny hop resin, and clean water (yet, all mild). Taste is of the same elements with some sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium and soft, and Great Raft Commotion APA finishes tart, refreshing, and highly drinkable.

The recipe for Commotion was tweaked earlier this year, and now includes lots of Citra and Mosaic hops. Commotion pours a light amber color with a quickly fading off white head. The Mosaic hops are instantly recognizable with their token tropical, citrusy and slight green oniony (is that a word?) aroma. The Citra hops get slightly lost behind the dominant Mosaic hops in this beer. The flavor follows the aroma, with notes of mango and grapefruit, with a touch of pine. There is some slight bready malt apparent, but the hops are the star of this show. The finish is dry and crisp, making it an easy drinker.
