Above average hoppy beer that tastes of rye, orange, and caramel malt. A nice weekend sipper, but not one I would rush out to get again.

Decent hop bitterness but is overshadowed by a lingering rye malt presence that is similar to raw bread dough.

A: Unfiltered but not too hazy. Color is somewhere in the range of very dark copper to light brown. A bit darker and redder than your typical IPA, probably due to the rye. Thick white lacing about 2 fingers high at the top of my pint glass.

S: A little bit of everything from the hops. Mostly citrus/grapefruit, but I also detected some piney/earthy and floral notes.

T: Definitely a hops-forward beer, but the malt is present enough to balance it out well. Supposedly 75 IBUs, but it seemed lower to me. There is just enough rye to give a spicy kick without being overpowering. Again, the hops present themselves primarily as grapefruit, but there are other, more subtle layers present as well.

M: Medium body for an IPA. Almost no oiliness from the hops (this is a good thing IMO). I disagree with the reviewer that said it had "semi-dry finish". There was definitely a bit of residual sweetness, but nothing overpowering. It drinks pretty well for being an IPA at 7% ABV and 75 IBUs.

O: Out of the Gnarly Barley brews I tried, this one was my favorite. Would definitely drink again. Hoppy but not overly so.

On tap at Red White and Brew, Hammond, LA

A: Opaque amber with a thick white one finger head that rode out the first few sips. Decent lacing.

S: Piney hops, grapefruit and a punch of rye.

T: Hops slide in with a nice malt and rye backup. Reminds me of a Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye. Lightly sweet and robust. Makes you sit up and take notice. A plus for hopheads.

M: Light to medium with medium carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

O: Another fine entry from GB. Catahoula Common for the malt lovers and now Radical Rye PA for those who dig the hops. Having the brewery just down the road keeps it fresh.
