Pours dark brown with a tan foam head. No lace.

Some nice malt aromas, a little cocoa and nuts, a touch of molasses. Not a strong aroma though.

Nice roasted malt, with a little cocoa, no charred or burnt notes. Molasses essence, meaning flavor but not sweet, and maybe some nuts. Mildly bitter. Long pleasant roasted malt finish. A slight sour note in there somewhere. It all works.

A little acidic, mildly carbonated.

Nice version of the style. Drinkable and multi-layered. A very soft beer. Smooth. Worth trying.

Pours a deep dark brown with a perfectly light brown head that was quick to rise, though it settled quickly it leaves a thick persistent creamy looking head that leaves some really nice lacing.

The nose is interesting to me, if I were blind tasting I'd guess this one to be more light in color; it has remarkably "lighter" beer quality to the nose. This may be more common with actual German black lagers, I wouldn't know since all we get around here is Kostritzer...anyway it has low touch of DMS, after that I mostly get a little bit of generic noble hop presence; and then just the lightest of "dark" character, in this case a super light coffee and toasted pumpernickel like bread, like all aromas these characteristics do show more as the beer warms up.

The taste again just the lightest hint of sulfur, but then, yes more of schwarbier notes I'm familiar with...lightly darkened toast, a more noticeable bit of roast that really lingers nicely on the back end and in the aftertaste, earthy hops on the finish.

Light but fuller body; ultra smooth and creamy carbonation, goes down clean as a whistle while leaving a really light but just noticeable touch of hop and roast driven bitterness, it really does beg for the next sip; if I wasn't trying to savor and ponder this beer it would probably be gone quite fast.

March 2010: 500 ml "Bügelflasche" (swingtop bottle), at Die Kleine Bierstube, Aarhus. ABV was 4.9%. Very dark ruby colour, nearly black. Big to moderate beige head. Moderate but nice aroma of brown bread and dark malts. The flavour is smooth and malty but not too sweet, with a very subtle roastiness. Low bitterness. Easy drinking.

a really excellent example of the style here, lighter than many, but full of flavor, very authentically german, super drinkable. medium brown i color, or more like diluted black, some light coming through and an airy inch of almost pure white head, nice retention on it and lots of bubbles. it smells like light roast, a little meaty smoke thing going on, dry baking cocoa powder, and wet soil, lots of minerals from the water profile coming through. the lager yeast is nice in the flavor, bready and earthy and robust enough to stand up to the malt, drying but the beer still has a little residual sweetness. hints of leather and tobacco and dark chocolate for me, but in a very drinkable package. a little bit of dusty european malt character in here, and even on tap this tastes less than fully fresh, but the flavor is solid overall, and this really does everything i want a good schwarzbier to do. lighter in body, fizzy, light roasty linger on the swallow. perfect fall day drinking beer right here, glad to have it around here in idaho a little bit!

Another average beer that is quit enjoyable. A good introduction for those still not sure about this style. Good maltyness carbonation. Crispyness is present together with some spicy aroma and a toffee taste.

I haven't had many Schwarzbier but I expected it to be a little fuller, not watery, but I know it is a Lager. I still liked it. It was a very nice bottle.

Look: black, fizzy, with an inch off-white head

Aroma: wine, lemon, oak

Taste: Some roasted notes, sweet caramel.

Feel: light body, a bit fizzy, and a bit thin.
