Enjoyed this flop top bottle out of a pint glass.

A: Pours a Dark black hue with a thick light brown 2-finger head that quickly dissipates and leaves a wispy lace.

S: Slightly malt aroma – not a huge aroma here.

T: Smooth slightly roasted malt flavor with hints of licorce. Not a huge flavor here either.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: I’ve had a couple of Schwarzbiers and they all seem to have this same bland yet smooth flavor and aromas. It’s not a bad beer but nothing in it really stands out.

Given to me by a friend who came back from Germany. Thanks Christian...

Tall, slowly fading light tan head sits on crystal clear, dark brown body. Mahogany amber when held to light. Mild but active carbonation. I thought it would be darker. OK lace.

Roundly-malty, clean lager scent. Not as much roasty malts as expected, it smells like it looks. As it warms, more chocolate and biscuit emerge. Very restrained, earthy hop. Smells "German", sans skunk (coming aus Deutschland and being in a brown bottle helps).

Tastes much like it looks and smells. Round, light chocolate malt, smooth clean lager, gentle hop character, though more bitterness comes through. Nice fluffy sweetness balanced evenly by the mild roast and gentle hop. Baked bread crust, malted milk ball; warm, barky bite. Milk chocolate and some unexpected raisin at the finish on the last sips.

Light on the palate. The flavors all meld together so well that you can enjoy it all in harmony without thinking about it, though it is more fun to do so. I could drink this with a chocolate mousse, a burger, or down a few of them just for fun. Not overly complex, but I think that's the point.

Served into a Erdinger Weizen glass

A: Pours dark brown almost cola like with a small head that dissipates rather quickly with a small lace held by carbonation.

S: Caramel, hops, malt, faint roasted coffee.

T: Malt, caramel, straw its kind of a dry flavor if possible and a little bitter in the end, kind of watery and thin bodied.

Overall: an ok beer, didn't blow me away or else, would have it again but in somebody else dime.

Not black but a deep brown. Big tan head fading to nice cap.
Rich malty aroma. The tatse is smooth and silky. There are not hops present. This is about the easiest drinking beer I have ever had. I could make this my everyday beer if it was available in the US. Thanks to my friend Georg in Baden Wuerttemberg for this and two other fantastic German Beers in my Christmas package.

0,5 liter bottle. Pours an opaque coca-cola black with a nice frothy light brown head, good lacing. Aroma roasted malts, chocolate, bread, and a hint of spicy hops. Flavor is burnt and roasted malts, bread, a touch of metal, and a slight bitter finish. Medium body, dry on the tongue, fairly carbonated, and a slight bitter finish at the end. Decent schwarz, pretty drinkable.

500 ml bottle. Black colour, brown head that dissipates too quickly and leaves no lace, not what one expect for the style. Bad start. Smell is roasted, some coffee and a bit metallic. Taste is a little better, but very fainty, coffee, caramel, roasted. I was expecting much more from this one. At least is drinkable.

Dark, with a thick head that lasted for a long time.

Smooth taste that is surprisingly light against the dark, pleasant color. Almost refreshing for a dark brew. One of the best Dunkels I have had in the bottle.

Flip top bottle lets out a nice steamy breath of dark goodness when it is opened. . .almost like a bit of beer steam is escaping!

Loved it.

Poured from a .5L swing top to a beer glass the liquid id close to black with a 2 finger light mocha head.

The smell is mildly roasty with a fresh hopes aroma.

The taste is good mild roasty flavor gives way to a mild hopy finish. Light notes of chocolate and light roast coffee as well as a nutty after taste.

The mouthfeel is good a classic black lager medium body and good carbonation.

The drinkability is good not the best Schwartz brew I know but good in a pinch. As I sit here in Heidelberg sampling what I could find this first week of a good long stay bier wise it can only get better.

Prosit, MK

A: Dark brown with a reddish hue. Pours with a small, thin head that rapidly dissipates into nothingness.

S: Nutty, earthy malt scent, with roasty undertones. Pretty standard schwarzbier scent, though lacking any fruity notes that distiguish the more complex examples of the style.

T: Sweet malt flavor, with a hint of smokiness which lingers into the aftertaste. The earthy undertones from the nose are also represented in the taste, albeit faintly. Again, pretty standard schwarzbier, if not a touch sweeter than your average offering.

M: Nice and smooth, with a finishing bite from the carbonation. Medium-bodied.

D: Relatively easy to drink, but the slightly sweeter taste might prevent session drinking.

Overall, an incredibly standard schwarzbier. Well-done, but nothing special.

Lager pours black with redish brown hues in the pilsner glass, off white head that subsides down to a thin film, shy lacing that eventually drops back into the beer.

Aroma of german pils : delicate malt, fresh noble hops. Incredibly soft aroma considering its color. Flavor is of rich delicate malt, a firm bitter hop balance and a smoky, almost a hint of molasses like finsh.

Very interesting style, I'll look out for more "blackbeers" in the future.

Served from from the normal type flip top bottle. Paper seal closing bottle. Serve by date located clearly on the back label

Appearence: Frothy stong head which leans back quickly but does not totally disipate through out the glass. but not unnaturally. Firm dark color with just the slightest hint of amber. Full rich dark coloration.

Smell: Walnut almost earthy suttle sweetness

Taste: Still earthy, almost to an unpleasent dergee however not so that it would cause it to be undrinkible. Some what of a par taste to the hops detecketed on the edges afterwards

Mouthfeel: Starting with an almost watery start it returns to a slight creamy feel. Resonates creamy afterwards.

Drinkability: A good sipping beer. Sweetness of the malts not too strong and a slight essence of the hops to let you know they are there but not so pronounce as to deviate from style.

Pours a near black color with nice thick tan head.

The smell consists mainly of caramel malts with just hint of smoke.

Sweet malts dominate the flavor with a hint of smoke. Not really much to it. Mouthfeel is kinda watery with prickly carbonation.

I was expecting a little more from this, the appearance was great but thats where it ended.

Das Schwarze produces a rich amount of light tan and creamy looking head. The body is black, but reddish hues are easily detectable in natural light.

The aroma is sweet and smells a little copperish like a jar full of pennies.

The taste is a little smokier than I thought. Immediately the taste is a little sweet, but does give way to this smoky taste.

This brew is light in alcohol but full in body. Definitely this is good to go with venison or some smoked cheddar.

Dark appearance, dark mahogany reflexes. Quite compact and abundant foam, beige in color.
At the smell, it is very delicate, with light notes of roasted.
The taste is quite light too, with liquorice, roasted, some light burnt.
A little better in the aftertaste, but it remains too delicate.
Drinkable, but not character. Drinkable, but anonymous.

The beer poured a black and was nearly opaque with a light tan head that left little lace.

High malt aroma with a hint of hops. It had a sweet fruity smell.

The taste was very balanced with just a hint of malt. No hops on the tongue. Finished a little malty.

The mouthfeel was a disappointment because it was medium light.

This was a good black beer but is by no means the best.
