Wanted to give this one a try after having the Dinkel Acker Pilsner. This beer is similar to most of the Dunkel beers out there. It's got the muddy brown color with little bit of yellow around the edges. It had the aroma of clove and banana. This beer also has a similar flavor to the pilsner a bit.

11.2 oz green bottle, I'm hoping for no skunkage.

It pours a dark brown with a hint of reddich/orange/gold. The head is fizzy and off-white.

The smell is classic, no skunk here. It has caramel, cocoa, and dark bread. Along with this is some honey and some light husky grain. I'm not really smelling any hops.

The flavor is excellent, everything you want in a dunkel. It is smooth and caramally with some cocoa, raisin, and munich malts. The hops are present in the flavor and add a little zest to it.

It is extremely drinkable. A winner.

Dinkel Acker Dark

Appearance: Dark brown, small head, and some good lacing.

Smell: Caramel honey.

Taste: Caramel, slight honey, and subtle malts.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light.

It's a nice lager. It isn't very powerful, but it has decent flavor.

Poured a thick, oily dark with little head. Smelled and tasted of chocolate with a little hint of coffee. It had a solid body but didn't seem too heavy and was very drinkable. It was the same price as the Miller Lite's so it seemed a pretty good value.

Poured from a green bottle into a weizen glass. Has a dark brown color with a 1 inch head. Aroma is sweet and slightly fruity. Has a good but not strong flavor with mild bitterness. Feels a little creamy in the mouth. Drinkability is o.k. Overall this is a pretty good beer.

A - I poured beer into glass and it left about 1.5" head in glass which unfortunately disappeared fairly quickly. It has a nice dark color, somewhere between red/amber/mahogany.

S - Roasty malt flavor, no hops or anything else.

T - Dominant dark malt flavor, no real hops, slightly bitter (just barely) and well balanced.

M - Great flavor, leaves slight dark malt aftertaste in mouth for another 15-20 sec.

D - Smooth beer, definitely great for heaver foods such as bbq, not necessarily your thirst quencher for 90+deg weather. Great beer!

The overall carbonation was somewhat flat; however, from the past, I know that many munich dunkel beers are like that. I personally like this beer and cannot wait to get another one.

It poured very flat. There was no carbonation. It was a nice dark amber with a clear body.

It smelled very sweet and malty. It had characteristics of a cider.

A very robust malt flavor was present on the front of the pallet. It slowly gave way to a nice crisp and dry hop finish. A perfect transition from one aspect to the other. It had a solid medium body that was not too hearty but slightly filling.

A very drinkable beer. They taste and mouthfeel really make up for the middle of the road appearance.

Clear, dark amber with a thin collar of foam that leaves minimal lace. Light toasted graininess in the nose with faint coffee grounds. Tastes of caramel malt, chalky cocoa and finishes with a coffee like bitterness. Light bodied and pleasant but not spectacular.

A mix of light ruby and dark amber at the bottom of the glass, that slowly descends into darkness as you go from bottom to top. Nice one finger head after the pour, but recedes to a nice film. Great bubblin too. The aroma is Munich malty bread and no real discernable hops. Watery heavily toasted and lightly roased malts. Ths gives a little hint of bread. Then some very faint lemongrass mint evens out the finish. Very smooth, watery a well as a little herbal note in the finish. Very drinkable, just needs some more flavor to make it a better German session beer.

This dunkel is quite tasty, easy to drink with some complexity.

It's somewhat dark brown with a somewhat small off-white head that steadily shrinks to a wispy top.

The aroma is mostly sweet brown bread, toast, and leaves with hay and a hint of pine.

The taste is a little on the dry side and has toasty bread crust, leaves, hints of root beer and cola. It's clean snd very pleasant, even somewhat zesty and very easy to drink, yet but a bit bland.

Pours a dark nutty color with a light, thin head. Very malty, not very hoppy (typically German in my experience). Sweet, thin feeling in the mouth.

Had it on tap in a half liter glass at Schultzy's near the University of Washington. I kinda wish I had ordered a whole liter.

Enjoyed on-tap at the Limelight Cafe in Augusta, GA.

Poured a nice, deep ruby-mahogany with a creamy, pillowy tan head that dissipated to a thin filament on the top of the beer and left nearly no lacing on the glass (most likely owing some to the chilled glass in which the beer was served).

Smelled of toasted malts and toffee.

Rich, full-bodied and smooth in mouthfeel; flavors of sweet, sweet caramel malt and a bit of brown sugar dominate the palate with some biscuit in the middle and finishing mostly sweet but with a slightly dry bitterness as well, with the sweetness lingering afterward.

Drinkability suffers as the beer, while enjoyably sweet in flavor, is almost cloyingly sweet, lending to a feeling on the palate almost comparable to a Doppelbock. I doubt I could down more than two of these (at the very most) in a sitting, at least without something less sweet in between.

Overall, a very pleasant brew, if a bit too sweet on the tongue. Not recommended for those not fond of this quality in a beer, but for fans of dunkel lagers, this is certainly a nice variation of the style.

The color when poured in a glass, was a medium dark brown with a reddish hue. No foam or lace at all. The smell of roasted malts and a sweet candy aroma was evident. The taste was of roasted malts, with a touch of caramel and just a hint of coffee. Not the intense flavor I was looking for, but it still was a pleasant taste overall. Nice quincher on a hot day or just standing around BSing with the guys and girls!

A -- Clear, dark mahogany color with a thick, off-white head that settles to a persistent, finely bubbled cap.

S -- Toasty malt nose with very slight spicy hops back. No skunkiness, thanks to the sealed 12 pack -- xare needs to seek these out.

T -- Same toasty malts, starting sweet and finishing dry (as a good decoction mash will yield). Some faint bittering hops in the finish.

M -- Soft mouthfeel with a light-medium body.

D -- Wonderful drinkability -- a dark beer without the perceived stereotypes (as it should be). I'd been dying for a nice Munich style Dunkel and I'm happy I opted for the D-A again.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, beer is a deep ruby-crimson color with a thin, almost stagnant head. The smell is malt dominate, slight toasted and caramel notes coming through. The taste is very similar, very malt forward - slightly skunked (probably due to the green bottle). The mouthfeel is medium in body and under carbonated. Overall, a drinkable beer - decent but nothing spectacular.

Pours as a dark mahogany with about 1/8" of tan foam that laces somewhat decently. Average in appearance.

Smell was of musky wet malts, hops, and skunk. While not totally offputting, somewhat strange.

Taste was almost like an Oktoberfest brew but somewhat lighter and skunkier. Overall, not impressed with the flavor.

Mouthfeel was somewhat bland and I can't really find the words to describe it - it has a bit of carbonation that goes away rather fast and not much else's left.

Drinkability wasn't going to score high. I wouldn't search this beer out and probably wouldn't drink it if offered for free.

i haven't had one of these for a while ; pours a med-dark copper brown w/ a thin off-white head which dissipates almost immediatly leaving a decent lacing in my nonic ; a nutty, metallic smell, a bit of fig or some darker fruit as well ; a crisp, malty flavor from the onset, mostly an all grain bread w/ some more dark fruit undertones, a decent, slightly sweet finish w/ a bit of metal in it as well ; a light, dry brew w/ a good amount of co2 letting the flavor linger a while ; a very drinkable one, i've always thought this an excellent dunkel...

A - A beige one finger head sits atop a rootbeer colored brew that shows some crimson highlights, and can look almost purple at times. The head fades relatively quickly, and only a little bit of spotty lace is left on the glass. Swirling brings a little bit of head back up, but it's short-lived.

S - Rootbeer and caramel are the major players here, accompanied by some black licorice and sugar cane. Some gentle grapey notes are there too. This is mild, fresh, and sweet to my nose.

T - Sweet brown sugar and caramel dominate this brew. Gentle, mild, fresh, and slightly fruity. There is a low-level of buttered toast diacetyls that I really like, and there is a big similarity to cola.

M - Light bodied, gently carbonated, and slightly sweet at the finish. Sort of like flat Pepsi.

D - Not a bad beer. Too sweet and cola-like IMO, but could be a good choice for a summer session when a dark beer is called for.

Appearance- A very nice ruby brown color pours a 2 finger head that recedes to a nice thin head.

Smell- At first sniff, I gather notes, bready, banana, but I also gather a very fresh flour smell.

Taste- Sweet dark candies come through with a light amount of sweet pinnaple and dark malts. It's a very interesting sweet malt. Also, the fresh flour is evident in the finish.

Mouthfeel- Lightly carbonated which works nicely with the style.

Drinkability- This is a pretty interesting dunkel lager and unlike any other I have tried. I may revisit it in the future.

A-pours a reddish amber that looks very nice, lots of thick almond head hides quickly leaving very trace amounts of lacing

S-not very strong in this area...some caramel sweetness is followed by grainy notes

T-wheat bread, honey, sugary sweet caramel, slight pine like bitterness from hops on the tail

M-light body helps drinkability but leaves much to be desired, carbonation is about right, dryness in the middle that continues till the finish and beyond

D- less complexity than other Dunkels helps it go down quite easily and without much thought because of it well rounded simplicity

I don't really have anything special to say about this one. I felt it was far too thin, didn't have enough hop character, and was too sweet compared to the other Dunkels I've had. It sure is pretty in a pint glass, though. Great amber color.

Not terrible. I definitely wouldn't turn it down if offered at a party.

Had this on tap at Vreny's Beirgarten

A - Came to the table with in a mug. Amber/copper color with a nice fluffy white head that fell slowly and left a nice lace down the glass

S - The smell was very bready and nutty along with a hint of caramel

T/M - Very much like the smell but bigger..had a very bready taste with hints of a nutty taste and then just a bit of floral hops on the end to give it some spice. The mouthfeel was slick and well carbonated without being too carbonated

D - I had close to 48 oz of this brew tonight before, during and after dinner and it really never hit me so I'm not sure exactly what the ABV is but I don't think it's above 5.5 or 5.9 tops. Overall it is a very drinkable brew in my opinion and I enjoyed it very much..I would consider this one of the better beers I've had an opportunity to taste

Purchased at Market Cross Pub in carlisle, PA.

My one friend tells me his dad used to drink this in the 80's. I have never heard of it until now.

A-After pouring it has a lil tan colored head but not toomuch to be excited about. It looks like creamy dark chocolate.

T-it kind has a cross between a yuengling lager taste and a bud light. Sweet yet bitter.

M-feels kind of forthy in the mouth and quite tasty and sweet.

D-It would definitely be worth to buy a six pack of this beer. Never heard of it but it is pretty good.
