Poured from the 500mL can into a weizen glass.

A: The beer is a nice bright color, very hazy, with a good amount of the distinctive weizen head.

S: Spicy with lots of banana and gum. Good bready malt character in there as well. A great representation of the banana bread character a weizen can have...

T: Spice and subdoued yeast character. Sweet with bubble gum and some citrus but mostly sweet bread. Finishes with another nice spicy note. This is smooth all the way through with lots of character.

Overall a good representation of this style for me. Not a lot of bite, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your preference. A bit thin in the mouthfeel department, but I love the smooth bready taste and smell of this beer, and it's just sweet enough. Probably would pick this up again.

Nice little Hefe Weis beer. It's not the best out there but its a good one. Taste not to strong of a yeast taste and not to watered down with a pleasant after taste. I would recommend this beer to my friends to drink at home. I love wheat beers and this while not being top 3 material is def worth a try.

Glass: Weihenstephan weizen glass

A hefeweizen that I've often seen on the shelf, but never picked up until now. Valentins hefeweizen is an all-around average version of the style, not bad by any means, but not particularly memorable when compared to other German versions. At $2.50 per half-liter, it's not a bad value, but for slightly more, one can try Weihenstephaner-level class. Still, a good, light-in-body version of the style that was enjoyed on a warm summer day.

Pours a ~4cm tall head of clean, white bubbles, small in size, creating a very dense and frothy head. Retention is about one and a half minutes, rather below average for the style. Head fades to a 0.3cm cap atop the body of the beer for the duration of the drink. Lacing is fairly minimal, a few thin horizontal lines and scattered dots cling to the insides of the glass. Body is a rich, deep golden orange color, quite hazy (70-80% opaque), with light bringing out pale golden yellow hues throughout. Carbonation is substantial in number and vigor, with many streams rising from the botom of the glass in great profusion and speed.

Aroma of slightly sweet, primarily bread-like, wheat and barley malt, with notable accents of phenols (clove/nutmeg oil) and lesser amounts of banana and lemon-like ester.

Front of palate detects pleasantly bread-like wheat and barley malts, light toasted bread/caramel sweetness, moderate banana ester and yeastiness, and light phenols (clove and nutmeg). Mid-palate of sweet, bread-like wheat and barley malts with a touch of light toasted bread/caramel sweetness, much stronger phenols (clove and nutmeg oils), light banana and lemon esters, and marginally perceptible apple cider. Back of palate picks up continued bread-like malts with mild toasted bread sweetness, moderately strong phenols, and mild apple cider. Aftertaste of wheat bread with hearty yeast, slightly spicy phenols, and very low banana-like esters and apple cider.

Beer is medium-light to light in body, with medium-low levels of carbonation, leading to a fine foaminess on the palate that dissipates a bit too quickly, leaving the beer feeling a bit thin and slightly watery. Closes semi-dry, with light residual stickiness on the palate and lips.
