Wow this place is amazing!! I was here on a business trip and it's like Costco for liquor. They have wine, beer (and lots of craft beer) and even cigars. I mean come on. I wish we had these back in MN. This is one of the most impressive liquor stores I have ever been in across the country. They have a massive selection of single bottles as well as sixers and 4 packs of all the recent beers, they get all the rare Dogfish stuff (sometimes have it behind the counter so you might have to ask) and it's just fun to browse around in here. The times I've been here I generally spent quite a bit of time looking around because there's SO much to look at. Great place and highly recommended!

This place is great for browsing different beers and picking up a sixer of mixed fun. They do offer singles in an abundant fashion as well as four and six packs. Mostly warm, although I didn't necessarily hit the coolers, as I am usually satisfied with picking up a mix of warm bottles. Import section was good, but a little less in terms of selection than I had hoped, but not shabby at all.
Location is pretty good. Just off of Midlothian Turnpike, so traffic in and out is never a problem.
Service was freindly, nobody approached me (which is good for me - if I have a question, I'll find you...). There was one day that I went in the same time that 4 or 5 guys were stocking, and that became frustrating, but then again they were only trying to improve MY selection, so you can't fault that!
I will seek out other shoppes in the RIC area, but at least I know that this one will serve my needs!

Total Wine may not be the quaint bottle shop we love so much but they have a good selection of craft beer.
It's a large store with lots of wine and spirits to wade through. The beer selection consists of lots of sixes and a large number of singles. This includes plenty of 12oz singles for a mix-a-six program. While many stores have a limited supply for this, Total Wine seems to have everything they offer. The stock includes lots of American beers (especially those from the east coast) and some Europeans as well. I picked up some Troeg's Nugget Nectar.
The only real down side is that just about everything is unrefrigerated. It's a pretty commercial place but Total Wine has plenty to offer.

This is a store meant mostly for wine, hence the name. However it is also a place to find a relatively good selection of beer. They really shine at having craft brews cold, which is helpful if your picking them up for a party. However i question their singles, many have dust on them and i met a former employee who said their stock of some more exotic beer did not turn over enough, causing many to go bad....but not be taken off the shelf. I have no way to confirm this as i am not going to inspect all their beers freshness dates, it is however something to think about. I find this place useful when what i want can not be found at the groccery store, but there are better options in richmond if you are really looking for good singles selection, or variety.

This is a convenient location for those on the south side to grab some of the standard micros. The prices are reasonable and they do carry some of the more popular seasonals. Definately take advantage of the coupons in the weekly papers for the $1 off a six pack.
Make sure to check behind the case aisles for the referigerated section. They carry all the Legend stuff there. I wonder why, maybe because this stores distributer is Legend Dist. Hmmmm.
I did ask once if they could get something special once, something DFH I believe and was told they could but I would have to buy the whole case. That made me a little surly but then found it on the shelves a few months later anyway.
This place has definately improved over the last year and I hope they continue to dedicate more space for the beer selection.
Things have been a bit better, larger selection now and the beer seems to be in date. Ive gotten pretty much everything I need her since its only a minute from work.

Located on Robious Rd, just off of Midlothian Turnpike (US60) this store feels smaller than the other Richmond Total Wine on Broad. The beers are pushed to the back and right of the store. Cases of macro brews occupy two aisles, then the sixer and case selection of imports and craft beers and, finally, the main reason to go to a store like Total Wine: the singles selection. They do a fine job of organizing and presenting a wide variety of singles. Everything is reasonably priced. They have a large cooler and do offer kegs beyond the macros. They will also attempt to order for you if it is available from the distributor. The average marks for service come from a general lack of beer knowledge by all but one or two of the employees on any given shift. This is first and foremost a wine store. But they do make a solid effort on beer. Worth a periodic stop.

I must say, the service here is really great. Not that they know their beer so well, just that they are so damn nice! Anything you ask they will try to answer and if they cant, they will find someone who can. That being said:
Their micro selection is quite good. Stone, DFH, troegs, smutty, etc., and a really great selection of the locals such as dominion and legend. Prices are pretty good also. The only problem is their lackluster belgian selection. Duvel, orval, and chimay is about the best you are gonna get here. Great place for buying in bulk (pretty cheap on the sixers and cases) but dont expect anything fantastic.

This Total Wine Location is pretty easy to get to just off Midlothian Turpike (US 60). The store is well laid out and they have quite a nice selection of beer. The selection is nearly identical to the Broad Street location, but somehow seems more intimate since it is tucked into the back corner of the store.
They also have a few hidden gems in the store. Some seasonal brews that are sold out elsewhere were still available here which was a nice find. That would make it worth the trip to both Total Wine locations in case you were in search of a particular beer.

If you're passing through town this might be a convenient stop to pick up some local brews as it's not far from Extra Billy's Steak & BBQ, the Koger Center Blvd. Hops location, and the Fox & Hounds British Pub. The store is quite large, well lit, and clean. It's organized, and the stock is rotated properly. Their beer selection is good with around 200 beers, all of which are available individually; and most are available in 6-packs or cases as well. If you don't see something, or have a question, ask the manager. It's a well run store and they're very helpful. The cashiers, however, can be a bit slow. But in general they're friendly and helpful as well. The prices are good, but not great. Most micros are $1.47 or $1.49 (Dominion, Mobjack, Weeping Radish, Rock Creek, etc.).

The "kid brother" of the larger Total Wine & More on Broad Street, this location is virtually identical in the beer selection. Nestled in a small strip mall, they offer a good line of cases, 6-packs, and singles. Signs say they are 23% cheaper than Kroger's in pricing. Selection is not as unique as other Richmond locations (Ellwood-Thompson's, River City Cellars, or Carytown Wine and Beer) but for something different from the mainstream, this is a good place to start.
Edit: 12/03 -- Much better selection now. I spoke with one of the beer managers and he had indicated that they were trying to be more competitive with the other beer stores in Richmond. Prices are still a little less than some of the smaller places. I still like the singles selection. Don't forget to check the "Style Weekly" newspaper for the $2 off a 6-pack coupon (limit 4 6-packs person)...it makes that case of Storm King only 30 bucks!
