Cöllege Station Kölsch is designed to appeal to the ‘cross-over’ drinker. This is the perfect ‘cross-over’ beverage for the novice and a great session beer for the experienced craft beer drinker. It pours a brilliant golden pint with a very nice bready sweetness and a low to moderate noble German hop aroma/flavor (depending on who is drinking). Consider this your ‘gateway’ to better beer.

on-tap (growler) from Blackwater Draw
poured into wide-mouthed stick
(about 22 hours after the growler was filled)

L: yellow, maybe a hint of gold/orange in it, 100% clear, some activity in the column (showed more about 15 hours ago when I first poured some from the growler); white head of foam only reached 1/4 to 1/3-inch tall, no sticking or lacing but keeping a tidy little white collar of foam; the clarity is brilliant

S: grain, sour grain, light lemon, more sweet-light malt than in the taste ... cracker to nearing bready malt sweetness; can't smell the bitter hops that dominate the taste ... maybe (and I mean *maybe) a slight floral note but it's hard to pull it up

T: grain and bitter earth/pepper ... the noble/Euro hops are present; some sweetness from the malt, perhaps a cracker flavor, well short of bready malt but still nice; corn, cereal grain always in there, but the earthy bitterness is dominant

F: solid all-around; it has held up decently overnight in the growler ... perhaps some falloff on the carbonation but not much

O: fine brew but nothing anybody needs to rush to BWD for; the lingering aftertaste is both sweet at times and bitter others ... the dirt/earth/black pepper hop bite generally prevails

BWD is making some awesome brews -- this particular beer is their "gateway" brew meant for the BMC drinker who finds him/herself at their bar staring at a beer list that doesn't have a BMC option. it's easy-drinking, well-carbonated, tasty and at times showing some complexity with the Old World hops. (1,545 characters)

Has this today when I stopped by to eat. Very good beer to drink with food, had to drive back to houston so didn't want to slam down 2 smash IPA's. I would really like to have this beer available in houston, as it is just a great beer to have with food. I think the description under Notes sums it up pretty good.
Poured into a midtown pilsner glass and had about 1 inch of clean white head. Beautiful beer to look at in this glass, very clear, pale yellow/gold in color
Smell was somewhat floral
Taste was clean and sharp, with a hint of sweetness
Feel, nice carbonation, great beer as I mentioned before with food, not much competing with what you are eating, more like complementing
Great beer to sit around and drink on a hot day, or on their patio (759 characters)
