Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: Cynic-ale on 04-27-2014

This beer, aged with Chili de arbol peppers in the barrels, is one of a series of innovative specialties to sneak out of our Dragon's Milk Cellar. The earthy pepper character mingles with the dark roasted tones of Dragon's Milk as the spice slowly warms your palate, pleasantly contrasting the deep malt character. Pairings red meat, smoked foods, balsamic, rich cheese & dark chocolate.

Tan head. Color is black.

Flavor profile: tons of chipotle peppers and spice. Chocolate and caramel. Raisins, plums, molasses. More peppers. Oak and vanilla. Milk chocolate.

Mouthfeel: spicy and hot. Full bodied. Medium
Carbonation. Ends with spice and roast.

Overall, the spice dominates this beer. Hard to tell it's dragons milk. However, i enjoy the peppers. Very awesome, but very intense.

Revisiting a 2015 bottle and I enjoyed it again but maybe more. The chile peppers dominate in a good way. Very enjoyable! Decided to up my score a bit.

Dragons Milk with Toasted Chiles.

Always been a fan of hot and spicy foods. Haven't had much in the way of GOOD Chile Beers. This was part two of the mixed limited release dragons milk four pack. Special mention to Mason at Jake's Liquor in Monroe, Michigan for allowing me to get one of each in a four pack. Anyway, enough talk, let's drink.

Look - From the twelve ounce bottle into a snifter. A hard pour yielded a much large head than the triple mash counterpart. Beer pours a deeper shade of black though still with the ruby undertones expected when held up to the light. Brew is a bit too dark to get a true read on the carbonation levels. Head isn't as bubbly as the mash, and sticks around for a long long year well after the initial pour into the glass. The beer is very heavy, actually shakes the glass as you pour it..never saw anything like that O.o.

Smell - The peppers are noticeable, though maybe not as much for me seeing as virtually all the food I cook is exceptionally hot so I don't tend to be stimulated by weaker levels of spice.has the base dragons milk beer with a touch of the expected bourbon and vanilla notes. Just a touch vegetable like in the nostrils

Taste - Once again the base beer plays a large roll in this guy. Big hits of Bourbon like goodness with a touch of the vanilla.all quickly followed by the spice. Which to me is on the high or medium scale in the LOW level of heat scale. To compare, it's about the burn level of Frank's Xtra Hot!, which to me is low heat and high flavor. You can taste a bit of the vegetative chile aspect, bit overall the beer hides it well.

Feel - The heat envelopes nicely in the mouth as the beer sits around and pays its due. Carbonation is moderate..I think. .Or maybe that's just the tingle from the peppers, can't really tell at this point. Moderate mouthfeel in terms of thickness and it swallows pretty damn easily

Overall - Surely my favorite chile beer. Really don't get the ratings on here and why they are so low. The base beer is all there along with the chile heat. Let me guess...don't like spicy food? Haha. Would surely have with a nice Tabasco and Dave's Insanity covered steak for maximum eat and easiest pairing. Would surely have again. Just wish more GOOD Chile beers were available .

QUICK EDIT: The lacing and stick was astounding. Hence five in the look category. AND....

22oz bottle poured into glass.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a tan head that lingers a little bit.

Smell: Smells pretty much like standard Dragon's Milk - bourbon-y and sweet. No chile smell of note.

Taste: Now THAT is interesting. The fire from the chiles and the sweetness of the base beer make for a very unique pairing. Remind me of a vanilla-y, bourbon-y version of a mole sauce. Definitely has more heat to it than the jalapeno IPA from Alaskan from earlier this year. The alcohol really doesn't smack you like in the base beer, other than the bourbon notes.

Mouthfeel: Pretty clean overall. The fire lingers longer than the sweetness.

Overall: If they made this in 12oz bottles instead, I'd be down with that, but 22oz is a lot of fire. Still, I like it.

First off, I am a fan of stouts brewed with chilies - if they're done right. At first, the beer has a good flavor, but as you swallow, you start to feel the peppers in your throat and three to five minutes later, it's still there. If the pepper was toned down a bit to where it's noticeable but not overpowering in the finish, it could be very good, but as with Neptune, too much.

Pours a surprisingly light nut brown, but settles into a near-black stance in the glass. Fizzy, moderate tan head with good retention and nice lacing.

Sweet chocolate aroma, without letting the barrel dominate. There's a touch of sweet bourbon and vanilla, and an even fainter note of spicy chilies.

Really, really nice brew on the palate. First, it hits with smooth chocolate malts laced with vanilla and cream; much more full flavor profile than the regular Dragon's Milk. Then, there's a surprisingly spicy wave of dry chilies, along with some berry notes. The final third sees the bourbon come back strong, while the chilies reach an apex and then slowly die down, maintaining a lingering heat. Berry sweetness also lasts through the finish.

Smooth body; medium to full; slightly dry finish, certainly exaggerated by the chili heat.

This beer is surprisingly well done; I find the base much better than regular Dragon's Milk, and the chilies add a very impressive - but completely palatable - level of heat.
