Pours a beautiful amber color with a white sticky head that leaves ample lacing.

Nose is subdued, with hints of citrusy crisp hops.

Taste is mildly hoppy up front, with pleasant bitters on the back end. Pine is most prominent of the flavors.

Slightly soapy mouthfeel, thinner than I like for an IPA. Easy drinking.

It's been a while since I tipped back a New Holland brew. Michigan Awesome fits the profile, though, of what I remember about their IPA's. Tasty, easy drinking, but ultimately, not terribly memorable. (524 characters)

Poured into a Great Divide balloon glass.

Look: Dark, deep clear copper colored body under a Foamy, sudsy cream colored head. Decent patches of foamy lacing remain.

Aroma: More pine and cedar if anything with subtle tropical fruits.

Taste: Very approachable right off the bat -- Tropical fruits such as mango lead the way into a pine and cedar follow up. Does not kick you in the teeth, properly balanced. Dry finish, a bit of black pepper as well.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied.

Overall: My kind of IPA. It has enough tropical fruitiness to offset any bitterness, lower ABV (5.8%) helps make this go down easy. I like it. The BA database says this is retired, however I just purchased this in June of 2015, and I see others have as well. (738 characters)

Couldn't sleep tonight, so thought I'd crack a beer for my first review on BA! Not a whale, but gotta start somewhere.

22 oz. bomber poured into a Founder's pint glass. No freshness date on the bottle, though I believe it to be around 3 months old.

A: Pours a dark, red-amber body with a nice half-finger white head that sticks around.

S: While I can smell the hops, I'm getting mostly the bready, biscuity malt aromas. Some faint orange and pineapple aromas in the background.

T: The hops don't really jump on my palate, probably not so fresh. Getting faint orange and tropical fruit flavors, but mostly just the malty backbone. Not very exciting.

M: Maybe slightly over-carbonated, but a nice mouthfeel for an IPA.

O: So I've had all the Hatters that NH has bottled, except maybe Imperial Hatter which I think was a year old when I tasted it. This one comes up in the middle of the pack for me. It doesn't do anything exciting and doesn't really improve on the original Hatter. Seems to be just a promotion for the Michigan Awesome brand, which is fine (they make cool shirts!). This would probably be more enjoyable if it was fresher, but it's not terrible. If you want a good Centennial beer, grab Founder's or Two-Hearted instead.

Recommendation: Pass, unless you're a die-hard NH fan and want to try all the Hatters. (1,334 characters)
