12 oz bottle poured into a New Holland imperial pint.
5.32% ABV, 12.5°P, no date.
A - Spice particles float in suspension, hazing the rich golden amber beer. Ichabod's well-formed but flimsy head collapses rather quickly, leaving gnarled branches of lace eerily stuck to the glass.
S - A pleasant fresh spice and pumpkin aroma comes from this beer with assertion but without being overpowering; cinnamon is there but nutmeg is the bigger player. Amber maltiness follows through with a nice base of toast and sweetness for a balancing effect.
T - Ichabod's flavor mirrors the aroma as the spiciness is much more potent than the pumpkin but doesn't translate quite like the nose does. The toasted malt backing present with some Munich-like sweetness but on the thin side, letting the spices run wild over the pumpkin flavor. The pumpkin is there but seems like an afterthought in comparison to the heavy spices. A touch of earthy hops aids in the dry, crisp finish.
M - Ichabod is certainly a lighter bodied pumpkin ale lending itself towards early fall drinking rather than the later, cooler weeks when something with a little more heft is necessary. The upfront spiciness almost transports you to a Sleepy Hollow envrionment though. In fact, I might just have to sit down with the movie and a 6-pack... Ichabod finishes spicy and dry with mild bitterness and a mild crisp bite.
O - New Holland's Ichabod pumpkin ale does a great job of whisking the drinker away to a mental fall fantasy world similar to the likes of Sleepy Hollow but, here in the real world, the beer's malt backbone falls just slightly short of real involvement and balance. The spiciness throughout is great, but it's in need of a little more balance and body for the cool fall days. In the end, it's one of my favorite fall seasonals I wish I could just slightly tweak.

Presentation: Very nice label with awesome artwork/graphics while keeping a classic classy look with a nice fall color scheme. Front label gives a small description of the beer. Back label gives ABV info and a small description of the beer. Neck label has Ichabod logo.
Appearance: An aggressive pour from its 12oz brown bottle into a 20oz imperial pint led to a 2 finger off white head of a medium somewhat thick density atop a hazy copper apple cider looking beer. Head retention was a solid 3min 14sec before fading to a thick ring and frothy coating with excellent lacing.
Smell/Aroma: Smell is of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove with a bit of toasty caramel and heavy fresh pumpkin.
Flavor/Taste: Taste is of nutmeg and pumpkin with a nice bit of toasted caramel malt on the front end with a mid point of clove, cinnamon, and pumpkin. Back end has a nice toasty malt finish with pumpkin and cinnamon dominating and a toasty aftertaste.
MouthFeel/Drinkability: Medium bodied with a slightly creamy mouthfeel and above average carbonation. Very very drinkable.
Overall/Comments: An overall very solid Pumpkin Ale that, while not great, is good across the board. This is one of the more drinkable pumpkin ales that I have had. Classified as a Pumpkin Ale @ 5.5% ABV. Consumed 12/7/2013.
