Tasmanian Hatter brings you flavors from the region of the Tasman Sea. Galaxy hops for Australia and Nelson Sauvin from New Zealand combine with Mosaic from the Pacific Northwest to present bright, tropical flavors of mango and citrus beautifully framed with biscuity malt character.

Pairings: grilled seafood, unagi and lamb.

I am so excited to review & rate this beer! I miss having Dr. Joel Armato as their PHL rep as he is not only a great guy, but he put on one of the MOST memorable PHL Beer Week events EVAR - a Beerlesque show at POPE (?)/SPTR (?) All I really remember is that it was in the evening, following a full day at the PHL Naval Shipyard with me in dress blues as a USN retiree. I wound up onstage with the lovelies at one point. 8=O

From the Bottle: "Galaxy India Pale Ale"; "Tasmanian Hatter brings you flavors from the region of the Tasman Sea. Oh, man, I would LOVE to eat some lamb! Maybe for Easter this year … In the meantime, I will just have to be satisfied with this beer. I started by Pop!ping the cap & giving it a slow, gentle, C-Line pour into the awaiting glass. It needed an in-glass swirl to form just over a finger of dense, foamy, rocky, light-tan head with great retention, leaving a load of sticky lacing in its wake. Color was Amber to Deep Amber/Light Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a musky tropical fruit quality, like a steady diet of papaya. Mmm. Mouthfeel was a little thin, not watery, but not up to snuff, either. The taste was very tropical fruity, but the emphasis remained on papaya with a slightly smoky muskiness. I basically subsisted on tropical fruit for several months & papaya was my go-to since not everyone likes it. It is a very densely fleshy fruit & the taste is not really sweet. This beer exhibited those same qualities. It was earthy, musky, lightly smoky, only semi-sweet & very satisfying. Finish was semi-sweet, but as I said, this may not be for everyone. YMMV.

Oops! Bought this one a year old!

Appearance: Cloudy amber with a nice off-white head and a wall of lace.

Aroma: Nose still holds tropical fruit still! Impressive!

Taste: Bitter hops and a rich malty body. I can taste the age here on the hops, as they seem way dialed down. Not a bad beer, but not at the top of it’s game. Will re-review if I find a fresh bottle.

Thank you Michigan! This IPA is really different; almost musky in flavor. Unfiltered. Lots of character, just bursting with it. So glad we are able to get this in nearby Maryland at our favorite Elkton store, Stateline Liquors.

Pours into a nonic a chill hazed burnt orange with a full finger off white head that settles very slowly into a frothy mass.Herbal/grass and sweet onion stand out most in the nose along with lightly sweet biscuit base, not as fruit as expected. The tropical fruit comes thru much more on the palate, overripe pineapple and mango with that sweet onion coming thru as well,a hefty caramel base holds up to the hops but to me never gets to be too big.A nice hop profile with nearly no bitterness, really nice.
