Had this off the tap at the brewpub for my birthday dinner. Deep and dark and utterly brown. Fluffy cocoa coloured head of excellent retention in the mouth of my mason jar. The scents were very pronounced with hugely chocolatey aromas and roasted dark malt tones. Smokey and oak barrel characters come through although I am not sure if this was barrel aged. It just reminded me of the Dragon's Milk in a way. Creaminess showed through in the nose as well. The flavour was milky and chocolate laden all the way. Sweet and smooth without much coffee impression which was odd to me, but ultimately did not change the fact that this stuff tasted really fine. The mouthfeel was not as heavy as I had expected, but it still had an acceptable density for the style. The body allowed the drinkability factor to grow exponentially until eventually I had purchased a growler and ended up finishing the whole jug much to my shigrin the next "mourning." It was a birthday to remember.

Pours a light absorbing black, really thick and viscous with a deep, dark tan head and scattered residual lacing.
Aroma of brown usgar, hint of coffee, chococlate and rich toffee.
Flavors of molasses or brown sugar, some rich caramel, light chocolate and coffee and slightly spicy hop bittering on the finish. Transitions seem a little off here.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, a little thin for style. Sweet to start and finishes with a short hop bittering and a hint of grain alcohol.
Drinkability is good. Again maybe a tad too thin for style but overall a pretty good drining stout. Sometimes it nice to get a stout that doesn't eliminate your ability to taste anything else for a few days.

My first beer of the West Mich BA Gathering, nothing like diving in the deep end from the start. Pours out like motor oil, impenetrable blackness with a nice tan head rising from the bottom then fading. Really good appearance. I agree with Tim in saying that this beer is served way too cold, almost all the flavors were muted when it was cold. I'd suggest ordering this then ordering another beer because it took about 10 minutes before this one really opened up. When it finally did there was notes of semisweet chocolate chips upfront and almost a cookie like sweetness. Alcohol, at first not noticeable, becomes more noticeable the further I go. Very warming down the belly. A fruity liquer sense takes over this beer as it warms. At first it seemed to be raspberry then cherry. Hops are mellow but I'm getting a little in the finish and they linger a bit due to lack of acidity. Still, this is a sweeter Imp. Stout, more something I would want for dessert. It's decent but there's better choices.
