bomber into tulip, vintage 2013

appearance: copper with amber overtones when held to the light, with 1 finger white head, some lacing

smell: earthy, herbal, resinous hops, subtle apple, very minor citrus

taste: dank sticky hops, but you can tell the bitterness has been toned back due to the aging process. Getting some notes of apple, the oak presence is noticeable but not overwhelming, it actually balances it out quite nicely. The finish is quick and doesn't linger, very refreshing and smooth.

mouthfeel: high carbonation, medium bodied

overall: Working my way through the whole Hatter line-up, so far I like the Michigan Hatter the best, but this one is very well done, it tastes very similar to the Michigan Hatter but with a bigger body and some wood flavors that fit perfectly. They both are similar and very good, for the price you can't really beat it.

A: Pours a dark, murky golden amber with a creamy, clinging white head.

S: Big bourbon barrel aromas of brown sugar, caramel, toffee, roasted nuts, woody spices, charred oak, honeysuckle, toasted coconut, sweet cream, and chocolate are underscored by subtler elements of fresh herbs, blood orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, and biscuit.

T: An oddly neutral entry reveals clipped notes of minerals, grass, herbs, cedar, lemon, lime, pine, and grapefruit, while faint notes of biscuit, caramel, crackers, and toffee are present in the background. The only traces of bourbon barrel aging are the subtle notes of spice, coconut, and charred oak that develop after everything else settles. The finish retains an herbal, citrusy bite with traces of biscuit and oak.

M: Medium in body and rather dry. Carbonation is crisp and prickly on the entry, but mellows out afterward. Alcohol is so well masked as to be virtually undetectable.

O: I'm not wowed, but I'm also not entirely disappointed. On the one hand, this is a very attractive beer in the glass, the nose is great and intriguing, and the mouthfeel is somewhat better than average, but on the other hand, the taste never really comes together. In the end, this does not seem bad to me, it just seems mildly disappointing. This one is sort of a missed opportunity...

Poured 22oz bottle (2013 vintage) into imperial pint glass.

A- Huge 3 finger foamy white head took it's time to settle down. Beer is a light amber

S - Oak and malts

T - nice mellow hop flavor some malty sweetness, vanilla, toffee. oak on the finish

M - Medium body, great carb, very smooth finish

O - Pleasantly surprised by this. I think I like it better than the regular hatter. Definitely would pick upanother one of these (especially at the sale price of 2.99 I got this) best value bomber I've ever purchased probably!

Pours a beautiful clear chestnut with a thick, fluffy, and rather persistent ivory head. Aroma is quite hoppy and fruity, as much apple and pear as citrus, sweeter than most IPAs I have sampled. Oak and bourbon hints come out in the hoppy, lively flavor, as well as a hint of caramel; fruit notes are not as prominent as in the aroma. Texture is smooth and creamy, yet fairly fizzy, leaving a nice hoppy and woody finish. Get your Hatter on!
