Pours a clear caramel copper color with a fleeting half inch ivory head that dissipates with large bubbles, leaving spotty lacing.

Resin and tropical fruit start the aroma, with an underlying touch of oak complementing the slightly sweet caramel malt backbone. Earthy hops round out the profile.

Huge sweet caramel malt backbone is dominant throughout the flavor, with muted citrus fruit in the background leading into a slightly perfumy hop finish. Bruised apple, grapefruit pith, and pear add depth, and the oak tones are fairly subtle, but more evident in the slightly bitter finish.

Body is on the heavy side, with fairly low carbonation. Alcohol warmth is significant.

Overall, a bit too sweet and malt dominant for an ipa. Not enough hop character or bitterness at the finish. Alcohol is a touch offputting.

Pours a deep and clear amber with a slightly fizzy white head. The head has minor retention but what little is left hangs on and leaves nice lacing. The aroma is mostly lacking with slight hops aroma. The taste is a little more robust, but not more defined. It does taste good though and there is a hint of oak and vanilla in the mix. A little thinner body for an aged beer but not terrible. Overall a good, not great, barrel-aged IPA.

This poured with a darker than copper hue and a off white head of sticky foam.

The nose is light but it smells like an IPA in a barrel, duh. Evident bourbon, oak, pine needles, resin and a back of malt reach the nose with subdued character.

The taste is stronger and sweeter. Bourbonesque creaminess and sweetness hits the palate first with a woodsy oakey flavor. Mid palate is presented a chocolate covered raspberry taste that took to the end for me to decipher. The finish is piney and a bit bitter.

The feel is a bit brash, with bitterness and bourbon alcohols but it turns creamy and easy rather quickly.

Very interesting and different approach to the Hatter, this accepted the barrel rather well.

A-Pours a clear, dull orange color. Head is a frothy cushion with an off-white hue. The head dies slowly and as I sip, circular lacing stains are left behind.

S-Candied citrus hops, a bit of grass and some soap. The most prevalent aspect of the nose is the caramel. A bit of dried oakiness. My first thought: too sweet.

T-Upfront caramel and more unspecific sweetness. The oak is not as defined as I'd like. The oak is slightly woody and it also has a sort of spicy tobacco element but it's a secondary flavor. The hops are also a secondary flavor. Sweet, perfumey, candied hops. The sweetness is the most dominating factor.

M-Medium bodied with plenty of texture. Soft carbonation. Light bitterness. Lingering sugary-liquid feel.

O-When I think. An Oaked IPA, I first think that it's probably a bad idea. Then I automatically assume, or hope that either the hops and barrel influence are the most prominent flavors. In this beer, I find that neither the hops (what you crave when you choose an IPA) nor the oak (what you want to experience when buying a beer aged in oak) are truly the most defining aspects of this beer. In closing, far too sweet.

Good soild tan color. Very full taste. It has sort of a wooden citrus feel. Got it right from the brewery in a growler. Not much oak to the smell but it has a very pleasent citrus hop aroma. I would for sure drink this again but the price would make me think twice.
