First off, this is not a belgian strong pale ale. This is an imperial IPA. Reviewed as such.

Poured from a bomber.

Appearance is copper and clear with a light amount of foam that fades to a thin layer of lace. Lace trails down the glass as it is drunk.

Aroma of citrusy/piney hops, with a light malt backbone. Fresh squeezed grapefruit. No alcohol aroma.

Taste is like aroma. Lots of grapefruit with some pine and malt afterward. No alcohol presence in the taste.

Mouthfeel is coating without being cloying or too thick. Not very filling for a 9.4%abv beer. After a while, you begin to notice a little alcohol burn. No strong, but it is there.

If not for the alcohol, I could make this a session beer and drink it all night.

very nice beer.

Had this at New Holland. One of six "hatter" varieties. All of them pretty much had the same appearance with the exception of the Black Hatter.

Clear copper with a caramel color. Some off white head that didn't hold up for long. Some lace left behind but very spotty.

Obviously brewed with corriander and other belgian spices and belgian yeast. A nice twist to the Hatter project. Can still get the same citrusy hops but they are somewhat masked by the belgian twist.

Oddly delicious corriander, with a spicey, spicey finish. Good malt and hop balance. Very tangy, floral fruit flavors, mainly citrus. Alcohol is very well masked.

Long spicey, mouthfeel is very satisfying, but may be difficult to drink in abundance.

Sampled in a flight at the Mohawk House in Sparta, NJ. Didn't realize that this was a 'Belgian strong pale ale', but I don't think it changes my review much.

Poured copper/amber, with one finger of white; fair retention and lacing, little visible carbonation. The nose was very dry herbal bitter; didn't detect much fruit essence. The taste was better...malty apple/pear which dissolved to a very dry bitter finish. The feel was much more carbonated than the appearance, though medium, and not overly annoying. Not a bad beer, but nothing really jumped out at me about this beer, aside from the very dry finish. Then again, it's modest enough in nature to not offend many people, so I guess it's a fairly decent session offering.

On-tap at the brewpub, this selection pours a tinted yellow gold with a light pearl head that leaves a little lace.

Light fruity wheat aroma with some grainy yeast. Some citrus and bubblegum as well. Subtle and pleasant.

The flavor is again light and sweet with some starchy fruit, primarily citrus. Some grassy notes are present as well. A hint of bubblegum and spice in the finish.

Thin, crisp mouthfeel. A somewhat matted dry finish. A solid Belgian with lots of classic characteristics.

pours a bit darker than expected with a significant haze, but a smallish off-white head that sticks well to the glass.

very sweet aroma with tropical fruit and grapefruit and significant malty sweetness.

again, rather malty and sweet in flavor with plenty of tropical fruit and caramelly sweet malts. not much pine, but citrus is there. booze too.

medium bodied and sticky with a sweet and boozy aftertaste.

drinks ok. not what I like in the style, but its not bad for what its going for.
