Had to follow up Sand Creek's Lija's brown with something else, as it was pretty unpleasant.
Rich brown nutty tone. Nice creamy head, descends down leaving nice lacing,
Smells of toffee,carapils, chocolate malt, nice backing of biscuit. Hints of smoke, toffee, coffee, nuts, and chocolate intermingle to create what I love about brown ales.
Rich, smooth, satisfying, yet light enough to keep flavors in balance. Toffee, bitter cocoa, hazelnuts, biscuit, dark bread, pepper, nice finish of pepper/smoke/nuts/ toffee.
Mouthfeel is medium, rich enough to keep it interesting, and light enough to keep it highly drinkable.
Do I have Cabin Fever on this wintery Chicago night? Yes.
Does this fit it's name perfectly? Yes, well done NH.

Yeah, yeah, I know, Cabin Fever on the fourth day of Summer?!? Well, I am trying to winnow my way through a massive backlog of beer and the older ones are on the verge of becoming V.O.S., so they get priority.
From the bottle: "Hints of rye, roast and raisin join a subtle caramel sweetness before a clean finish. Parirings: roasted meats, dried fruits, gruyere & smoked cheeses."
The drill is becoming a familiar one by now - pop the cap, heavy pour, sit back as the pseudo-cascade takes place, record results thereof. This time, the two-plus fingers of head were a dense, light-brown with good retention. I was reminded of the top of a coffee or mocha ice cream cone. Nose definitely gave off raisin and a smoky roastiness, hence their suggestion for smoked cheeses. Color was mahogany (SRM = > 22, < 27) with NE-quality clarity. Mouthfeel was creamy and the taste was chocolaty with raisins and smoke. It was like a Cadbury Fruit and Nut chocolate bar. Finish was semi-sweet, with the roasted malt offsetting the chocolatiness and the fruitiness. This was one that need not be thought of a a seasonal, but it would have been nice to have paired it with some of their suggestions. Maybe next time ...
