A: [4.25] The beer is a transparent brown color. The pur formed a 1/2 finger tan head on top. The head dissipates pretty quickly, but evenly. The bottle lists the ABV (6.6%) and the born on date (via a wacky code that is not human readable) it translates to 11/04/2014.

S: [3.50] I am getting brown sugar on the nose. There is another scent that I can't put my finger on. Maybe vanilla or marshmallow.

T: [3.25] The beer has a really nice nutty flavor. If it said "Hazelnut" on the label I would believe it. The flavor seems to fade as I continue to drink. Meaning it was more potent at the beginning. As I go on it is weaker and less flavorful.

M: [3.25] The body is a bit thin and watery.

O: [3.50] This beer had a pleasant flavor initially but somehow it faded as I kept going losing some punch. That, in addition to the thin mouthfeel, hurt the overall scoring a bit. It is still a decent beer. I wouldn't turn it down - but I am not seeking it out either.

Spicy and hoppy, this brown ale really warmed you up as the label would suggest. Nice dark chocolate and fig qualities. Almost christmasy. Very unique in it's flavor balance. It was a very pretty rich amber color as well.

Pretty standard brown ale. Nothing spectacular...

To me this is an average American Brown ale. The taste hits all the right flavors. There is milk chocolate, cocoa, and light tree bark. The taste is somewhere between bitter and sweet as neither sensation really dominates. This is not a bad beer, but not one I would seek out again either.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, deep, dark, almost opaque, mahogany color with a quarter of a finger of oatmeal-colored head that quickly dissolved into a thin lacing of foam that partially covered the entire top of the beer.

Aroma: Very roasty and toasty. Tons of roasted malt and freshly toasted bread. Nutty and slightly earthy with some notes of coffee, toffee, caramel and brown sugar. Some subtle hops notes too.

Taste: Very good. Tons of roasted malt and roasted nuts. Very nutty. Some good brown sugar-like sweetness to balance out the flavors. Reminds me some of Samuel Smith’s Nut Brown Ale. Very good!

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied to slightly chewy and creamy as there is not much carbonation at all. With an ABV of 6.5%, there’s no presence of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is a very, very good brown ale. Great, roasty, nutty flavors balanced beautifully by some brown sugar-like sweetness. Definitely recommended.
