look: 5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 5 | overall: 4.5

Appearance:
Split the 22oz bottle 4 ways into tulip glasses. Has a nearly pitch black body with red highlights and no head. Leaves a spot or 2 down the glass with a good swirl.

Smell:
Thick nose of roasted malts, a little hops, some sweet fruit (figs) and a touch of alcohol.

Taste:
Tons of flavor to be expected from an Imperial. Sweet caramel with heavy roasting, a very small touch of hops and of course a tail of alcohol.

Mouthfeel:
Very thick and heavy body with only a very mild carbonation. Smooth and creamy.

Drinkability:
Very good slow sipper, warms you up.

Comment:
The New Holland section is always my first stop down the beer isle and I immediately grabbed this one as I had never seen it before (and not since). Only overtaken by "Dragon's Milk" for intensity and complexity (my all-out favorite brew) this is another outstanding creation of New Holland.

I have always liked this brew. Pours a thick black with deep tan head and spider web like lacing. Smells of deep roasted grains, chocolate, some coffee, and more chocolate. Decadent mouthfeel, and velvety smooth. Tastes of sweet dark chocolate up front, coffee and roasted grains on the sides---do I detect some deep roasted barley in there for depth(!?), and medium hop bitterness on the back changing into a cocoa flavor on the aftertaste. Booziness comes through later---have a seat! Very nice. Very luxurious. Just a great imperial stout. CHEERS!

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.25

Appearance: black in color, 1/4 inch head, opaque, low carbonation

Smell: dark chocolate, smoke, and roasted malt

Taste: dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and light caramel

Mouthfeel: heavy bodied, low carbonation, sweet and roasty

Overall: An above average rich and heavy imperial stout.. The alcohol is well hidden, but yet I feel like I have had more complex and interesting examples in the style. Not a beer I would pass up, but not one I need to rush to again.

the 2014 vintage is 11.4% abv, and feels like all of t, this is an enormous stout, a nice example of the style, but probably in need of a little time in the cellar to mellow out and integrate a bit. jet black in color with a shiny obsidian finish and about a half inch of really fizzy tan head. a nose of heavy burnt barley bitterness and some rich oatmeal, and of course the alcohol. they come in separate waves, with a bitter bakers chocolate up front and a pronounced coffee element in the middle. tons of dark barley in this thing, really intense and palate coating. the booze is evident though, and makes it feel a little thinner and hotter than it needs to be, and the medium carbonation isnt quite enough to uplift it any more. im impressed by its flavor, but wish it was a little more refined in terms of feel. definitely a slow sipper, this will get a buzz on pretty quick if you let it. new holland so far to me, has not lived up to its hype. this is good beer, but its not incredible, and its not particularly distinct from other well made big stouts out there. i like it, but im not sure i would buy it again. glad i had buddies to share the bomber with.
