Had this in a snifter.
A brown sugar-colored head rises to a finger's-width. Then the creamy stuff falls to a thick ring of sheet lace with just enough to cover the cap. The body is completely black with some carbonation columns noticed at the top sides of the glass.
The nose hits up front with bourbon and a little brown sugar, some vanilla. There are some stronger smokey notes of tobacco and leather, but so buried. The aromas are not especially strong, but enjoyable nonetheless.
The bourbon flavor is more muted, with only the slightest brush with booziness on the finish. Otherwise there are strong impressions of vanilla syrup. brown sugar, and caramel malt. The stronger roasted flavors, again smokey and leathery, are most apparent in the finish with the boozy kiss and a quick burst of fig.
Dragon's Milk is full bodied and very creamy. There is a substantial amount of stick to the flavors with the roasted and smokey notes clinging long to the back of the throat, definitely more of a woody dryness.
Dragon's Milk is a very enjoyable beer. The vanilla syrup quality on the palate is a little different at first, but the smokey and boozey finish is a very nice contrast. Add to that, the feel of this beer is great and makes it a joy to sip. Strong, but not overbearing, rich, but not cloying. This beer rides a fine line, and does it artfully.

A: Pours almost black with a small head that dissipates quickly. Looks pretty much like a bourbon barrel stout should look.
S: Chocolate, some coffee, maybe a bit of vanilla. Oddly, not much in the way of bourbon.
T: Just a bit of bourbon with more coffee and chocolate. Drinks very smoothly, even at 11 percent ABV.
M: Very good, but not great; smooth and silky with some alcohol sting late.
O: Very good representation of the style. It's less "bourbony" than many of the other beers in this genre, but drinking Dragon's Milk is a good experience overall.
