Poured into a tulip glass from a 22oz bottle.
Vintage: 2013

Pours a nice dark liquid with some mahogany edges. There is a nice dense light tan head that forms. Pretty creamy looking. Retention is not bad. Nice and sticky on the sides of the glass.

Aroma starts off with some caramel and molasses. Dark fruit notes and some slight boozy notes follow. There are also some nice chocolatey hints in the aroma that give the brew a nice sweet notes. There is some good heat to the brew and there is also notes of wood from the barrels.

Flavor starts off with some nice boozy heat. There is nice molasses and dark fruit notes in the flavor. Notes of raisins and gooey caramel sweetness. Some earthy and woody barrel notes are present as well that intermingle with some more fudgey and chocolatey goodness. The barrel and boozy heat are present but not overwhelming and actually gives the beer a nice cleaner finish. The body is a bit on the lighter side but its still a bit on the medium side.

OVerall this is a yummy approachable BA beer. Nice notes of bourbon and some good dark fruits.

look: 3 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Dark brown-black in color, almost no head, poor retention. Opaque, overall nice-looking, but the head is disappointing.

Smell: Chocolate, sweet, nutty, biscuity, smells good and smooth.

Taste: Chocolatey, a little bitter up front, smooth overall though, slightly sweet. Not incredible, but pretty good, yeah.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation is a little more apparent here. A little rough in the middle but otherwise smooth. Fairly well-balanced.

Overall: Pretty good, but not great. Definitely enjoyable, but I think I'd go for a Sam Smith Chocolate Stout over this.
