Appearance: Black glass lets some light through at the edges, holds a soapy white foam that clings to the glass.

Smell: Woody barrel, bourbon barrel, just barrel, and some wood. It lets you know there was a lot of tree involved in the brewing of this beer. Some malt gives a hint of support.

Taste: Boozy, bourbon is up front and full volume. Following behind is a rush of sugary roasted malt, with a light lactic 'milk stout' edge.

Mouthfeel: Medium, almost medium heavy body, low carbonation, slick oily finish. Alcoholic evaporation in the finish goes beyond dry to slightly burning/numbing.

Overall: A real one two punch. The heavy bourbon fire put out with the malty shovel. By them selves, both are overwhelming, combined, just a bit closer to center where the two Venn Diagrams overlap. A real sipper.

Thanks to Illudium for the sample!

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours pitch black with basically no head to speak of; just a tiny bit of fizz. There is a bit of a ring around the top of the beer but again, unimpressive.

Aroma is full of bourbon with lots of vanilla and wood. There is some dark fruit in there along with a touch of sweet chocolate.

Bourbon right off the bat in the flavor. Rich vanilla notes that drown out pretty much everything else. Buried underneath is some milk chocolate, roasted malt, and dark fruit. Very thick and heavy mouthfeel and a sweet, sticky finish.

Overall, I really like bourbon so this is a real tasty beer but I feel it is a little unbalanced. Bourbon really dominates the whole thing and there isn't any room for the other flavors to come through. Lacking some complexity but still a pretty nice beer.

Bomber poured into a Stella Artois chalice.

A: Dark and not very active. One finger head that dissipates to a light ring leading to thin soapy lacing. Has some legs!

S: Big oaky, vanillan up front with subtle roasted notes shining underneath. Has some of that big bourbon nose.

T: WHOA. Big as life and coming out of left field with a giant haymaker, It almost doesn't remind me of beer. Hot and boozy, verging on a hot boozy mess but very very complex while doing it. Minor roasted notes but they get engulfed in this big bourbon aged note.

M: thinner than nose and taste would predict. Filling without being overly thick, nor cloying nor overtly boozy. The heat is exceptionally subtle and quite welcome. Very oaky finish. Big vanilla.

O: It verges on hot boozy mess, but somehow just balances and teeters on the brink, then pulls it off. Nicely, I might add.

Loved this beer dark in color mild to medium head. So creamy and yet barrel aged. I couldn't get enough of this beer so lives up to its name. i could drink this beer all day long anywhere at any time. I happened to see where this beer was brewed so that is so freaking awesome kudos to new holland brewing company
