Big thanks to MarcatGSB for this bottle! 2011 Vintage

A: Pours a nice black color with a small off-white head. Not much retention, forming a small ring around the edge. Spotty lacing dots the sides of the glass.

S: Get a good bit of the oak coming through, lots of chocolate, some caramel, a little roasted malt, and a hint of dark fruit.

T: Nice chocolate flavor combined with a little bit of oak. There is more dark fruit coming through as it warms, some cherry and a little raisin.

M: Medium bodied, maybe a little thin for what I was hoping for. Moderate carbonation.

O: A solid oak barrel stout. Pretty easy drinking with a solid flavor profile.

Vintage 2011. Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip. (I know, it's not the way BA recommends, but after smelling it, I knew it needed more surface area than a pint.)

Smells like raisins and oak and bourbon. Definitely a sharp aroma, warning you about the weight of the beer.

Pours with a small, milk-chocolate head that subsides almost instantly. Dark like cola, but still slightly transparent in the light. Leaves a fluid, oil-like lacing on the surface throughout. Very little lacing on the glass.

Taste of raisins, molasses, oak, and, finally, bourbon. Subtle cherry and other dark fruit flavors come through as well. Tart, dry finish, perfect for a barrel aged beer. No carbonation on the tongue, just the tang of the barrel.

This is the third time I've had this beer, and there's a reason I keep coming back to it. It is complex, and it changes and develops as it warms and develops on the tongue. It goes well with many different foods, but could overwhelm lighter fare. My mom, who really hates beer, actually likes this one!

Overall, a very good barrel aged beer. Definitely worth a try.. or three...

2011 vintage.
12oz poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a transparent black with red/chestnut highlights. Ephemeral head is quickly reduced to nothing. Thin layer of film is left on the glass with sparse and spotty lacing.

N: Beautiful oak notes right off the bat along with subtle vanilla and bourbon aromas. Semi-sweet chocolate, notes of black coffee and rich caramel also make an appearance.

T: Subtle bourbon, caramel and roasted barley on the front of the tongue. Toffee, whiskey booze, faint semi-sweet chocolate and faint vanilla mid-palate. Finishes with scorched candy sugar and a good amount of oak.

M: Medium bodied, creamy, very dry, bitter and warming.

O: The tastes are way too subtle for a barrel aged Imperial Stout, almost watery. Kind of tastes like watered down whiskey with some burnt sugars added. This beer comes off very weak. Meh...

22oz bottle poured into a clear plastic cup

Appearance : dark chocolate black in color. Honey carmel brown head fromed after a less than aggressive pour. Sticky lacing clings to my cup

Smell : alcohol dominates the aroma with hints of oak, dark expresso and chocolate

Taste: Definitely does not hide the high alcohol percentage. And then finishes with a smooth sweet bakers chocola. Subtle expresso flavor. Oak is more prevalent as it warms.

Mouthfeel :sticky medium to heavy body brew. Carbonation is on the low end of the spectrum

Overall :I Really enjoyed this brew. I can definitely recommend this beer to someone who has not tried it yet.
