12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance-True black with just the faintest garnet highlights when held to the light. Appears to be relatively clear, though it is nearly totally opaque. Tall sticky brown yellow head has decent retention and leaves some lacing on the glass.

Aroma-Big bold oak up front-probably American-with oodles of vanilla and wood character. Underneath is some light chocolate and caramel, with slight peppery fusel alcohols. However, the overwhelming aroma is one of buttery vanilla oak.

Flavor-Big assault of booze and oak characterizes the entire palate. Tannic woody notes and light charcoal obscure nearly any malt character. There are hints here and there of chocolate, caramel, and toffee. In the finish, a semi sweet vanilla note emerges along with peppery fusels. Tannic oak carries far into the finish.

Mouthfeel-Medium full body with moderately low carbonation. Some warmth from booze verges on hot at times.

WAY too damn oaky. The oak character dominates the palate, and anything that might have once resembled a stout is now reminiscent of sucking on a woodchip. It's too aggressively oaked, which to my palate makes it almost unpleasant to drink.

A- A lovely deep chocolate/cola brown with a creamy head that fades to a thin protective layer quickly.
S- Vanilla, bourbon, vanilla, bourbon, malt, bourbon, vanilla, and some molten caramelized brown sugar. Think creme brulee drowned in a luscious oaky whisky.
T- The aroma is directly proportionate to the taste. Big notes of vanilla simmered in caramel and strong oaky bourbon tones. Light cocoa hidden behind all of it as it warms but again, creme brulee drowned in delicious bourbon, minus the burn and robust punch. I could see where some people would think the bourbon is overkill but i happen to like bourbon and vanilla so this is right up my alley. Its more of a heavy strong ale than a stout as it claims to be but i don't care. There is some pound cake like sweet breadiness to it and a tinge of a spicy hop but the oak and vanilla crush them all to oblivion. A bit of warm alcohol is present but necessary to keep you honest.
M-From the cask this is like sipping warm caramel silk with a slick cream character, divine, I can't wait to see how a bottle of this stacks up compared to it's beer engine brethren.
O- If you fancy yourself a bourbon drinker and you prefer vanilla over chocolate when it comes to ice cream and you also happen to love craft beer, it is a must. It's definitely a sipper. I could see a dragon enjoying this after a long day of burning villages and evading arrows.

Appearance - Can't see through it ... that's promising! Not much head, but at 10% ABV, that's to be be expected.

Smell - I mostly smell a raisiny, sweet smell ... also very promising.

Taste - there is a slight bite of something ... possibly a slight uncharacteristic flavor that doesn't seem like it belongs. Maybe a hop / malt disagreement?

Mouthfeel - ever so slightly a bit too carbonated for a perfect beer, in my opinion, but a good mouthfeel in general.

Overall - not bad, but my expectations were higher by previous info I was given. Wouldn't turn it down, but wouldn't make it a go to beer either.

2011 Vintage. Pours black that appears dark red when held up to the light. Very tiny tan head that disappears very quickly. Scent is initially very heavy on the dark fruit side. Very sweet dark fruits. A hint of chocolate and tobacco as well. Smells extremely sweet. Taste is initially sweet dark fruits with just a bit of delicious bourbon flavor. Nice chocolatey notes with vanilla and molasses. Very very sweet. Mouthfeel is a little more than than I would have liked. Drinkability is fair. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall, this beer is delicious, but it's just delicious in small amounts. I will definitely be able to finish this 12oz bottle, but couldn't drink more. A little too sweet. Also, I think this one would be more accurate at being classified as a barrel-aged quad. The dark fruits are much more overpowering than chocolate or coffee.

Bottle date: unk

A: black, finger of light cream foam falls to a broken sheet.
S: smells like lactos, some coffee. Pretty simple.
T: flavor is interesting. Some toffee, vanilla tones, oak, some figs, some anise and some grape.
M: near velvet, medium bodied with a semi dry finish.
O: not a bad beer. Better on tap I bet.

Dragon's Milk Stout pours a black color, with very little head. There is a very warm heavy alcohol smell, with a little bit of coffee, and chocolate aromas. The taste is very heavy on coffee, and the alcohol hits you, and almost burns. Drinking this is almost like tacking a shot of alcohol, I don't know how many of these I could drink. Overall this is a pretty interesting beer, I think it would be great, if the alcohol was tuned down.
