A thin whispy whit/carmel color head. Pours dark as a Coke.

S not much, some dark malt, and alcohol.

T alcohol first thing on the pallet and the top of your mouth. A touch rusty on the taste.

M Can be round if sipped correctly, might be best attribute.

Worth trying but not something I need to keep around or seek out. Alcohol dominates and gets to your head quickly. Can only drink one, if you choose to drink it.

Dark brown in appearance - almost black. There is a thin head to this offering and no retention. Caramel dominates the nose. The taste is driven by the chocolate malt smoothness. Pleasant vanilla and whiskey notes are present, but certainly not overdone.

A- Black with blood red hues when swirled in the glass. Tall tan head that lasts, dissipating to a thin covering that leaves patches of lacing behind.

N- Soft milk chocolate with vanilla and a touch of roast. Light earthiness and pleasant phenols from the oak.

T- Rich dark chocolate with vanilla undertones. Oak is about equal in intensity with the chocolate, adding to the complexity. Nice woody phenols from the oak. Mild grassy hop presence and a subtle underlying roast balance the sweetness nicely. Semi-sweet cocoa powder and lingering oak in the finish. Delicious.

M- This beer is the definition of chewy. Full-bodied and thick without being sticky. Seems like the body was artificially beefed up somehow (lactose?). Creamy, yet slightly chalky on the finish, which gives the chocolate more of a cocoa powder character. On the low side of moderate carbonation, with a semi-sweet finish.

D- Overall, definitely an enjoyable beer. I like the balanced use of oak. The base beer really shines through with lots of rich chocolatey goodness.

22oz bottle to tulip glass.

Pours kind of thin looking for a "high gravity" ba stout, black with a cap of sand colored head which quickly recedes to a ring. Good retention and no lacing. Smell is a somewhat one-dimensional creamy vanilla, with some alcohol, oak, and chocolate malt as well. Taste is kind of harsh oak, vanilla, and milk chocolate. Light body and medium-light carbonation. Kind of flabby, and could use some more heft. Overall, this is pretty mediocre. I would pass in the future.
