A-Pours a clear amber orange with a foamy white head that has great retention.

S-Funky with some peppery notes. Nice.

T-Great farmhouse funk in the front, peppery and spicy. Some hints of hops toward the finish but this is not very hoppy. But then, regular Mad Hatter is not all that hoppy for the style either. Very nice flavors.

M-Light to medium bodied, good carbonation.

O-A very nice funky farmhouse style. My favorite Hatter.

Served chilled into a standard pint glass.

Poured a light amber color that was hazy but looks well filtered. Had a large cream color inconsistent head that stuck to the sides of the glass otherwise fleeting to a thin layer. The aroma wasn't overwhelming but was very refreshing none the less. It was more on the citrus hoppiness side with slight tangerine, slight grapefruit with an overall floral freshness. A slight biterness at the ends that fades slowly. A great beer that I'd drink again. Good offering.

Cloudy orange with a large off white to light tan head with good retention and a sticky lace. The aroma has floral hops, pine, grapefruit, pepper, Belgian yeast, and a small amount of peaches in the background.

The taste is just like the aroma. Much less sweet than I thought it would be. Is also hoppier than expected and there is a lot of pepper flavor. The peaches come through more as the beer warms.

Medium bodied, well carbonated, and dry. Has a bit of a peppery aftertaste. Well worth trying if you get the chance.

A - Pours a hazy light amber-orange with a pillowy 2-finger head. Solid retention and decent retention followed.

S - Noticeable Belgian notes (reminiscent of your typical saison) present themselves in the nose alongside a very muted hop profile

T - The flavor profile is almost the inverse of the nose. Here, a few funky Belgian notes are subdued upfront, but floral and slightly piney hop profile dominant the flavor.

M - Almost medium bodied and moderately carbonated with a lingering bitterness

O - This is definitely an enjoyable brew, however, I don't think the nose or flavor profile was where NH's description lead me to believe. Had the hop profile been more present in the nose and the Belgian notes more present in the flavor, I would've enjoyed this even more.

Amber with a golden glint in the big tulip. Lots of foam, which lasts surprisingly well. Rather bitter. Aftertaste is just bitter. Chalk dust in the nose. Bordering on metallic with a lot of mineral flavor. Very dry, more of a hint of sour. Not terribly bitter, but the hops do not contribute anything floral.

This is like a Saison with the malt drained out. Something about this tastes incomplete and used up. The Belgian character is there, with a touch of yeastiness, but the bacteria seems to be eating whatever malt was left. Austerity in a bottle.

A - Pours a clear light copper with three fingers of creamy tan head. Head has excellent retention and leaves a lot of lacing.

S - The Belgian yeast component of the smell seems to outshine the hops. This bottle is a few months old. Hops are mostly citrus, with oranges and grapefruit present.

T - Taste starts with citrus and bread malt, followed by some funky yeast and a bit of spice. Finishes quite dry and bitter.

M - Medium mouthfeel, actually a bit creamy. Finish is very earthy and bitter.

O - Not one of the better Belgian IPAs I've had, but not bad. There is quite a bit of earthiness to this one.

Shared with my wife in tulip glasses.

A – A golden straw color, but a little more on the orange side, a decent haziness that is expected from the style. A large off white almost oat colored head that had great retention.

S – Oranges, maybe a little banana some Belgian yeast funk, a mild hop profile and some fresh baked bread to it.

T – Some fruity/citrus flavors in the beginning with a little funk intertwined some bready taste and also a little bitterness almost on the grassy side of the spectrum.

M – On the lighter side of medium bodied, but not to thin, decent carbonation.

O – I was left wanting a little more from this beer, but was left a little empty. I would put this more into the Belgian Pale category than the Belgian IPA. This still was a decent a respectable beer.

A - pours golden in color with a nice thin white head with really good retention.

S - light hops and belgian yeast. Bready malts.

T - very citrusy and fruity up front then finishes dry and bitter.

Very light haze to this bronze and copper colored brew. One finger of head that recedes after the pour to a thin thin of foam. I like the bubbling.

Very delicate, earthy aroma from both the yeast and some light, baking biscuit dough malt. The hops add lots of earthen meadow, grass, and citrus.

The taste starts as delicate as the aroma, earthy, malty, but a little more bitter. The middle has more dry biscuit flavors popping up along with earthy dry meadow yeast and bitter American hop citrus. The finish is almost all hop bitterness in teh citric range with a little grass still holding on to the palate.

The mouthfeel is very bubbly, somewhat dry, and finishes on the metallic side.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter. Thanks to bobpack for this.

A: A dark orangish copper in color. A touch of haze. Huge 3+ finger head, slight orange tint. Very bubbly. Awesome retention and lacing.

S: Lemon and oranges. Light citrus and floral hops. Coriander spice. Belgian yeast comes through. Some fresh grass. Light clove. Light bready notes.

T: Bready malts upfront. Very spicy and citrusy in the middle with a touch of bitterness. Lemon and orange peel. Very grassy towards the end. Belgian yeast throughout. A very light touch of alcohol.

M: Light to medium bodied. Medium carbonation. A touch of dryness. A little funk in the aftertaste.

O: Not as good as the other Belgian IPA's I've had. It's decent and definitely drinkable and refreshing. At only 5% ABV I'm surprised I get any alcohol in the taste.

Pours a hazy orange-ish to yellow color with a light tan head. In the aroma, green apples, small earth and a small hp. In the taste, yeasty, earthy and ends with a green apple fruitiness. A small sour bite and medium bodied mouthfeel, with a dry yeasty green apple in the aftertaste. Nice tart, great saison qualities, I can dig it!

Thanks for this one, Derek.

A: The beer pours a hazy golden orange color with a large white head.

S: Very lemony with plenty of yeast to go along with it. A nice combination of citrus peels and a light floral hop note. It's fairly bready with some other sweet malt notes such as a touch of cracker. A light spice, perhaps some apples.

T: A bit more bread than on the aroma with some yeast and maybe toffee. There is a lot of citrus character, particularly lemon, with a mild grass note. Not much bitterness, but a lot of sweet fruity esters.

M: A bit on the light side in body with a medium carbonation.

O: Kind of funky for a Belgian IPA, but a lot going on and some nice flavors.

Served this 22 oz. brown bottle in a Tripel Karmeliet glass. 2011 vintage. The body was golden amber in color with a large pithy, tan head. There was minimal lacing but but sheets of fine foam slide up and down the glass on each drink.

The smell was, not surprisingly, of grandpa's basement. Spices and apples too. Peppercorn. Belgian yeast character.

The taste was spicy and boldly bitter. Wow, a nice combination of Saison/IPA. Fruity and drying. There was a distinct lingering bitterness.

The mouthfeel was medium to light in body. There was a mouthfilling, fluffy carbonation. Nicer than I had expected.

A- This beer pours a slightly hazy deep copper yellowish body with a beige head that is thick and last a good bit. There is some strands of microbubbles that trail to the surface.

S- The green earthy hops has some black pepper saison yeast notes to it that grow as the beer opens up. The yeast and pepper notes start to take on a Dijon mustard quality as it warms.

T- The dry crisp green hops have some tropical fruit qualities that become mostly lemon as the beer warms. The sight watery taste fades to a touch of sweet malt that grows a bit. The finish is peppery yeast and pungent bitterness that has a woody note to it aswell.

M- The medium mouthfeel has a big scrubbing bubble finish.

O- The hops are nice and big but the peppery yeast character is a bit to bitter and hides some of the hop depth. The pepper and hop bitterness make it a bit to harsh in the finish.

Pours out a deeper amber color tinged with reddish highlights...and a nice fluffy foamy head that leaves mediocre lacing. Medium body, very sharply carbonated, smells of citric hops, belgian peppery yeast, and honeyed apple wedges. Taste is a lot more bready and doughy than the nose had led me to expect, a pleasant surprise! Also has the same peppery Belgian yeasty tones, sweet honeyed apples and citric hops from the nose in the flavor... there is also a very faint tart element that I didn't discover until after the beer had warmed up some towards room temperature.

It really does come across as an odd hybrid between a lighter more subtle Saison and an IPA. My only complaint is that the Saison elements sometimes aren't strong enough to shine through the overlapping IPA citric oil. If only there was more....funk. I never found any horse blanket funk in this brew, only a faint tartness, which is why I called the Saison "subtle". Maybe about 20% more raunchiness would have worked better for my tastes.

A: Slightly hazy deep orange color with almost a red center. The foam cap is ginormous on this beer, lacing is quite nice.

S: I get a bread-like aroma and those typical yeasty qualities that belgian beer is known for. The aroma also carries some of the hops out of this beer which are quite floral.

T: Its a nice beer. Flavors include: bread, flowers, peppers/spicy notes, and a tad of tangerine zest.

M: Medium bodied and heavily carbonated with a bitterness that carries the b aeer across the palate and through the experience.

D: Drinks quite nicely. I'll have to keep this one as of my regulars.

Pours a cloudy ruby amber topped by a thick, bubbly head that just won't die and sinks its claws in to the sides of my Duvel tulip and won't let go. Gorgeous.

Lots of c-hops and funky Belgian yeast. Perfumy. Peppery. Rustic.

The taste is a prickly bitterness, grains, dried orange peel, and floral hops. Finishes dry and crisp with a lingering pine bitterness and light peppery spiciness. There's a light touch of caramel malt underneath.

Light bodied with a crisp carbonation. Probably the weakest aspect of an otherwise great beer.

It tastes like I imagined it would: A cross between a Belgian IPA and a saison, and a harmonious one at that. I highly recommend it.

a: This was a clear, dark, golden orange color. It poured with a large, airy looking, big bubbled head that faded to moderate lace.

s: An appealing combination of wet, lightly funky, earthy hay, and lemony, flowery hops. There were also milder fruit elements of apple and pear.

t: The taste is a pretty big departure from the smell. Sweet, kind of muddled tasting grains dominate up front. The finish is a clash between a too strong Belgian yeast clove note and a largely flavorless, herbal hop flavor.

m: Light carbonation made this feel thin.

o: I was excited by what I smelled, but this just doesn't come together well. The bottle read "vintage 2011", so this may have just been too old. Oh well, I'll continue trying New Holland offerings because they do take chances and their bottles are reasonably priced.

taken from notes - thanks to tenderbranson69 for sharing, enjoyed from a duvel tulip from the chilled 22oz bottle.

The head is about 3 fingers from a vigorous pour color of ecru with rocky topography and rides a golden amber body w/ moderate haze and lace clings well and retention is very good, the bead is fine. The aroma has a wild yeast tinge with slight earthy essence and some citrus and floral hop compliments the yeast is really expressive with some slight stone fruit accents with slight sweet cherry tinge w/ some golden plum and mild spice odors. The feel is bitter up front with slight sweet malt compliment and subtle tart accent from the yeast with spiced quality from the hops with moderately high carbonation and semidry bitter finisih with slight alcohol in the feel.

This comes off in flavor somewhere between a saison and ipa with some slight earthy tinges from the yeast with an almost funk influenced light horsey taste with slight citrus and fruity hop flavors with slight tart elements and spice accents with some gentle sweetness and biscuit from the malt in the background. The alcohol is mild in the flavor with some bitter hop and slight grassy notes with a hint of pepper as the beer finishes. I thought the flavor was pretty good, it has some 'farmhouse' yeast elements and the hoppy aspect is pretty high overall but the combination of the yeast and the hops used isn't the best fit, it is tasty and I would drink it again, but not necessarily the best example of the style.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a small chalice.

Hazy coppery honey colored body with a decent off-white head. Good lacing. Characteristic Belgian yeast notes and fruity American hops in the smell and taste. Very well balanced between the hop and yeast flavors without one dominating the other.

Soapy head with giant bubbles that leaves lace digging down the sides. Cloudy orange with hints of yellow beaming through, a good looking beer. About what you might expect from a style like this, nearly a blend of the two.

Spicy on the nose, farmy like a saddle, a little woody and even somewhat fatty.

Spicy throughout the tongue like a Saaz IPA, but with a distinct lemony top note and strong earthy backbone that subtly creeps through, earthy, malty and filling.

The maltiness is what sticks with me, keeping with it just a hint of the hoppiness still there. added depth really builds as it comes to temperature.

I can see where this derivation of the Mad Hatter comes from, adding another chapter to the beer's history.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Pours a hazy rust color, with a thick ivory head comprised of tiny bubbles. A fair amount of carbonation keeps those tiny bubbles in business, replenishing from the bottom as quickly as they transmute to the air from the top.

Tangy smelling, with an obvious Belgian yeast profile mixes with sweet caramel malt and piney hops for a rather complex aroma. The smell says farmhouse funk with a hoppy ending.

Taste starts off bitter and sharp, acerbic to the palate and drying upon the tongue. Peppery spice, wet straw and tobacco garnished with a twist of lemon combine before finishing with a bit of tart.

Medium bodied, clean and dry, with abundant carbonation, this leaves the tongue feeling as if I dried it with a towel.

This is my second in New Holland's Mad Hatter series, and while I appreciate their adventurous attitude, I've not sure I'd run out and have this again. Its more spicy herby farmhouse ale than it is IPA, and can't hold a candle to other Belgian IPA's like Flying Dog's Raging Bitch.
