We crack a bottle, pouring a brew of deep Tootsie roll brown, letting up the faintest golden streaks of light around the edges. It holds a one finger head of tight, creamy light brown colored bubbles, showing quick retention. This is, however, nicely reproducible with a hard swirl of the glass. This leaves rows of spotted lacing left dripping down the glass. No haze or sediment is noted, and carbonation appears to be moderate. The aroma gives dark chocolate and oat as the base of the grain bill, along with multigrain bread, sourdough yeastiness, echoes of white vinegar, thick roast with light char, medicinals, puffed cereal graininess, aluminum, mustiness, and light lactic creaminess. With warmth comes notes of raw barley, rich milk chocolates, and almond oiliness. Our first impression is that while the flavoring and body sit to the lighter side of the spectrum, it shows good roast and depth, and hits all the stylistic high points it needs to, to be pleasant. As we sip, dark fruit of fig, strawberries, and over ripe blueberries begin the taste, mixing quickly with soured roast of chocolate and coffee grain, vanilla buttercream, limey rind, light booze, wet cereal grain, basement mustiness, tinny metallics, mineral bite, smoked meatiness, and sweet cream. The middle comes forward with sourness and biting roast of coffee grain and raw barley, light vinegars, rose florals, distant booze, medicinal phenols, brie cheesiness, wheat cracker breadiness, and flaxseed. The end comes with mineral water, skim milkiness, soft roast of chocolate malt, oat, and soured brown malts, earthen honeysuckle florals, watermelon and sesame seeds, light grassy hoppiness, dust and stone, light corny adjuncts, and warm plastic bitterness. The aftertaste breathes of graphite and gravel, gingerbread, aluminums, molded moss, red grape bite, chocolate and coffee bitterness, muddy mineral, dandelion, and souring smokiness. The body is light to medium, and the carbonation is lighter. Each sip gives decent slurp, smack, cream, and froth, with fine finishing sip. The mouth is initially wetly coated, dripping into rather chalky, lightly puckered astringency across the tongue and anterior hard palate. The abv is appropriate, and the beer drinks well.

Overall, what we enjoyed most about this beer was its flavoring. Through both the aroma and the taste we were given and even-keeled, easy, light brew. Nothing really stood too far out, but rather all the notes, characters, and nuances blended together for an easily appreciated final product. While each sip gave decent froth and cream, this, coupled with the chalky dryness left around the mouth, proved to show a lacking of that soft, silky mouthfeel that you might have come to expect from the style. This slowed drinkability a bit, but the general ease and inclusiveness of flavoring helped to push through it. In the end, although the beer may not live entirely up to the ominous tone set by its name and label, it keeps the drinker interested long enough to enjoy it to the last sip.

Lazy saturday afternoon, feels like an oatmeal stout kinda day.

Pours a mocha colored frothy and semi thick almost 1 finger head that fades semi slowly, nice lacing as it does as well, almost black beer with faint brown light sneaking through the thin parts.

Nose brings sweet brown malts, caramel, little syrupy note, little nutty toffee like notes, some creamy like oatmeal, a touch of brown sugar and faint mocha, and very faint coffee.

Taste starts with darker malts this time, a touch of a roasty black malt, mild dark chocolate and cocoa notes, mocha like more than anything, with some of the caramel and brown sugar notes, a little nutty toffee again, and touch of a biscuity note. A nice creamy oatmeal, little oatmeal dark chocolate effect. Hops kick in on the backend, a little earthy almost spicy like hop note with fair bitterness for the style. Finish is drier but creamy and a little sticky, almost dried lactose but more like dried oats, little more semi sweet chocolate and touch of mocha coffee.

Mouth is med to a bit fuller bod, nice creamy oats, decent carb.

Overall not bad, pretty nice oatmeal stout actually, the nose was a little lacking, but the taste brought some nice darker malts, nice oats with a little dark chocolate or semi sweet, nice kick of hops on the back end, decent finish, a touch syrupy and sweet but not bad. Pretty enjoyable even for a warm summer afternoon.

Love my stouts, especially oatmeal stocks. This poured as close to a jet black stout I normally enjoy. There still was a hint of brown which gave me the warm aroma of coffee and chocolate.

The head was small and dark. The first taste was on the small side with nice much of a big stout taste considering the oatmeal fame. The mouthful and finish were much nicer, so I needed to taste it again.

Each taste afterwards, I found more round and soft flavors coming out. Almost like the oatmeal was finally trying to push through.

Enjoyable beer, in the top of the oatmeal stouts I have had
