Poured from a bottle into a lager glass. Pours an ALMOST transparent black, With a massive tan head. Too big for that matter. Leaves a great amount of lacing. The smell is of burnt malts, Some caramel, And some very light blueberry oat. The taste pretty much follows. A LOT of blueberry oat. And I mean A LOT. Pretty much all that this brew tastes like. Pretty damn good. The mouthfeel is a bit too thick, Though the flavors keep piling. Hell, I even tasted some oatmeal cream pie in the mix. Lovely, Just lovely. Would I buy it again? Yes. If I needed an easy to drink Oatmeal Stout that didn't require me to share with anybody. Bravo, New Holland Brewing Company, Bravo

Review No. 3,000 here on Beer Advocate.

The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of chocolate and oats, as well as some roasted malt. The flavor is similar. I get a lot of cream and oat notes as well as some dark, bitter chocolate and roasted malt. The beer is fairly dry and has some bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and high carbonation.

Pours a one finger khaki head that fades quickly leaving some lace. Black color no highlights. Light carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Roasted malt nose and flavor is sweet roasted malts, hints of chocolate. 12oz bottle from Whole Foods Columbus, OH.

Pours a deep chestnut brown with a ruby hue. The two healthy fingers of head quickly dissipate, but leave some really intricate lacing on the glass. The nose is roasty - just the way I like my stouts to smell. Roasted malt is certainly the focus here all the way through the finish. Nicely done.

Pour: Fairly deep black, with a light head that sticks to glass.

Smell: Didn't really get anything out of the smell.

Taste: This oatmeal stout has the charcoal-chocolate-coffee taste similar to the Samuel Smith. The beer is definitely a bit sweet, and there are strong coffee notes on the end.

This is a fantastic oatmeal stout. It could be a bit creamier, but is generally tasty and well balanced.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter at cellar temperature.

L - Deep brown color with a 1.5-finger tan bubbly head. Really nice retention and lacing.

S - Sweet chocolate malt, coffee with cream and sugar, and oatmeal. Smells sweet and delicious.

T - Starts sweet with nutty and toasted malts with a little bit of chocolate and cream. Finishes with a little bit of roasted coffee bitterness, but this is mostly sweet. Does not yield as much coffee or chocolate as the nose suggests.

F - Medium-to-full bodied with good carbonation, a creamy and silky mouthfeel, and a sweet but also slightly bitter and dry finish. Cream and oatmeal sweetness lingers with the bitter roasted coffee.

O - This is a pretty good stout. I guess I’m a little disappointed in the taste just because it smells so delicious. If it tasted just like the aroma, this may be in top 5 or at least top 10 “stouts that I’ve had” territory. The body is a tiny bit thinner than I expected also, but it’s still has that creamy and velvety mouthfeel that makes stouts great. The bottom line is that this is a highly drinkable and tasty stout. I’d like to check out more from New Holland.
