12 oz. bottle, with a coded bottled on date printed on the side of the bottle. Acquired as part of a mixed six pack at the local beer store. Another saison from New Holland. Expectations aren't so great, but I'm keeping an open mind.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter.
A - Pours a bright murky golden lemon colored body with some dark specks of sediment floating around, and lots of active carbonation. Two fingers of tightly packed bubbly white head. Looks alright for what it is.
S - Smell is of dry wheat, acidic vinegar tartness, lots of must yeast, some floral coriander / clove spice rack notes, hint of latex glove, some vinous white wine character, and a hint of bubblegum malt.
T - Taste follows the nose, but falls a bit short. Crisp bubblegum malt, husky grains, crisp yeast derived fruitiness, mild citrus, green apple, pear, peppery clove spice, white sage, subtle vinous white wine character, and some florals. Slightly medicinal.
M - Crisp and medium bodied, with coarse, scratchy carbonation. Prickly apple / pear fruitiness on the palate.
Overall, it's not bad, but fairly ordinary if anything. Still, it is clearly a step up from the New Holland Golden Cap. Worth a try if you are a fan of the style.
