I saw this bottle for 4.99 and couldn't believe it. I asked the store clerk if it wsa a mistake and meant to say 14.99 (the price point for other New Holland sours), I was assured that the 4.99 was correct, how could I pass it up?? Pours a clear golden with no head. The nose features a heavy waves of lactobacillus along with notes of corn, wheat, and lemon. A touch of white wine and oak makes an appearance as well. The taste is plenty tart with wheat, grain, lemon, grape, and oak all present. It picks up in tartness as it goes and has a nice crisp finish. Mouthfeel is well carbonated and very light in body. Overall, not a bad Berliner at all. There is a nice wave of sourness and a high level of drinkability. Worth a try!

22 oz bottle into a goblet.

A: Pours a clear golden color. The head is about a finger high, with a white shade. Retention flat-out sucks, and there isn't much lacing left on the glass. It looks like a flat, cheap lager basically.

S: I'm a bit surprised by the acetic presence here. Some notes of lacto and cheesy funk can be found, but given how tart it smells, it could pass for a decent sour ale at times. But it's not perfect - I'm not sure where this faint meaty presence is coming from. Still, though, a pleasant surprise coming from a Berliner.

T: Oh wow, that is tart! As expected, the tart attack is front loaded on the palate (primarily acetic/vinegary, but there's still some lacto in there). Once it fades, though, the flavor transforms into mostly diacetyl. Awww maaan. And really, this is all it brings - tartness and some lesser buttered popcorn. No subtle fruitiness, no perceptible wheat, no nothing. Even worse, it doesn't seem to integrate that well - if it did, I might just be singing its praises right now.

M: The feel is pretty rough/tannic, as expected from a sour. Because of the diacetyl, though, it doesn't really go down that easily. There's a lot of carbonation as well.

O: I'll give it credit - it's both sour AND cheap ($5/bomber). It just doesn't seem to have much balance, though. Sure, the sourness is nice, but it's devoid of the lesser subtleties that make sour ales great. Since it's so cheap for a sour, I still think it's worth trying if one needs a cheap tart fix.

This is just what one is looking for in the world of funky, sour beer. Super easy to drink, right amount of taste and just the right amount of tangy sour funk.

The nose is light with notes of sour tangy wheat. The wheat is very noticeable and has a fresh outdoor smell. The sour tang is more lemon rind and vinegar.

The flavor is set with an undercurrent of wheat malt but the pithy lemon rind and balsamic properties are more prevalent. A bit of Apple and pear surface briefly and add to the character.

The feel is low on pucker factor, high on drinkability but a touch watery. Otherwise this is a great summer beer or overall change of pace.

poured 22oz bottle into teku.

A - Urine yellow in color with a 2 finger white fizzy head that rapidly fades into oblivion. No lacing.

S - Aroma is kind of funky, almost like overripe apples, grapes, musty wood with hints of vinegar. Definitely has a sour scent to it.

F - Yes it is far more sour than any Berliner I have had. Notes of vinegar, lemon, tart apple, sour grape all collide on the palate. Not quite sure what the finish is, but it has a distinct taste. The flavors work very well together.

M - Light, well carbonated and prickly. A touch of dryness on the finish.

O - A nice beginner sour that is different than the Berliners I have had in the past. I like this and given the sun $5 price it is nice to kick back and drink on a hot day.

Brilliantly clear as water, with a head that dissipates, literally, to nothing.

Grainy aroma, slightly sour, with a bit of floral hops.

Flavor is far more sour. Very acetic, a touch lactic. Given the blue Sunday, I didn't expect such sour notes.

Wow. Surprised. Not much character there, other than the tart/sour notes. Great for a palate refresher! A little more acetic than most Berliners I've had.

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, high carbonation, gold yellow in color, clear

Smell: light apple, sour mix

Taste: big lemon, slight sourness, and a touch of apple

Mouthfeel: light body, sour with prickly sourness, high carbonation

Overall: A solid Berliner Weiss beer. Nice lemony taste to it. I have had better in the style, but would not pass this up if I could find bottles of it.

Pours a crystal clear pale yellow, strange for a barrel aged sour; although I think they might have filtered it, which is sort of disappointing. Smells of lemon juice, lime rinds, and unripe peach skins. Also a bit of apple cider vinegar. Taste follows the nose with a good acetic acid presence, unsweetened lemon water, some lime juice, and Granny Smith apple skins. There is a light beer graininess and a bit of wheat flavor on the finish and in the aftertaste. The only really bad thing is that the mouthfeel is a bit watery, but it is nicely carbonated.

This beer is tart, refreshing, and bubbly. A perfect summer sour to enjoy on a hot day. At 3.50$ a bomber, this beer is a steal. So go ahead, grab three and have a day of it.
