Oddly enough, because this isn't an overwhelming beer, this is the beer that started to turn me into a beer snob. I was bored and living by myself one summer, so I started trying out new beers available from Martin's Supermarket (South Bend, IN) down the street from my house. And this was the first I actually sat down and thought about reviewing properly. It had a very unique taste compared to your run-of-the-mill industry beers and I was hooked. It pours out a deep reddish-brown with a semi-thick head. It looks more like a brown ale than an amber. The smell is great - of roasty malts but mainly a very strong aroma of flowers. And the taste is much the same - a complex of roast and flowers and chocolates that works very well. It's a Spring release, but I didn't have any trouble finding it all summer.

This is the staple of Tulip time in Holland, MI. It is a great beer that I wish could make it to more parts of the country. It is simple, but delicious. I remember having this for the first time during my first Tulip festival. I was somewhat a newby to craft beers, but I knew i liked this right off the bat.

This brew poured out as a reddish brown color with out a whole lot of head on it. I think that the bottle may have been a little old. I felt that it looked a lot like a tea of some kind. The smell was a little fruits with some herbal notes in there. The taste was a lot like an unsweetened raspberry tea. The mouthfeel was thin and not very heavy at all for the color it had. The beer was alright, I'd try it again for sure.

A - This beer pours a deep ruby color, and has a large creamy off-white head. The head left okay lacing on the glass.

S - It smells faintly of toasted malts, a bit of fruit, and some citrus.

T - The initial taste is toasted malts. There is caramel sweetness present, as well as some fruitiness, citrus, and some earthiness.

M - The body is on the lighter side of medium, and it had good carbonation. It goes down pretty smooth.

D - The drinkability is pretty good. It goes down easy, and it is pretty refreshing. This a pretty good beer, and I think its worth trying.

Overall, a pretty bland example of the style. Poured an amberish-ruby. Aroma was vague sweet malt. Overall flavor profile was on the sweet side, with little distinctive about the hopping. Mouthfeel was a touch thin. Not bad, just uninteresting and average.

Had 2 samplers at the brewery to see which beer I wanted most. Many good ones but for a 16 oz this won out. Pours a maroon chestnut translucent color with minimal head. Smells floral, roses, tea leaves. Taste is slightly sweet iced tea with malted tones. Feel is dry and crisp. Taste / feel lingers in a good way. Easy drinkin on a warm summer evening. Wish they sold New Holland in Mass.

s- I've had this bottled and on tap, and of course it's a bit better on tap, so that's where I'll focus.

a- Dark amber, not quite black but very dark.

s- Average. I don't really remember any stand-out notes.

t- This beer instantly tasted to me like somebody had poured Killian's and Guinness into the same glass. If you're a fan of reds, this seems like a pretty fine beer, sort of a sampler for the genre. There's some creaminess and burnt like Guinness, but also some hops and bitter like Killian's.

m- Average. Not too creamy, not too watery. Bitterness and burnt flavors are average for the type.

d- Again, average. This is a pretty good-tasting beer if you like reds, and goes down well. I'm never shaking the last drops out of the glass, but I do tend to look for it when it's in season.

verdict- A pretty good red, and if you'd ever felt pulled between ordering Guinness or ordering Killian's, now you have a solution- order this, and get both! (Actually, I'd still go for straight Guinness, but this is a fun try once in a while).

A - Nice deep amber with no head to speak of which is weird since I had hard pours all night.
S - Mostly rum or bourbon. I really couldn't pick out any other smells but a alcohol smell...
T - Kind of heavy dark fruit. Really wasn't too harsh with the ABV (which is what BTW? I must be around 6 or 7 at least)
M - Really harsh to drink. Almost off putting. Other may enjoy it more than I did and I was defiantly a sipper.
D - Na no thanks better than the Dragons Milk but not as good as the IPA. Wouldn't seek it out again.
