Did the brewery tour for $10, not the brewpub, so ratings are for that. Great tour of the (ever expanding) brewery and distillery. Nice slow pace, 4 samples of 4 oz pours, plus tiny tastes of their spirits. And a logo'd pint glass at the end. Well worth the price for sure.

Hands down my favorite brew pub in Michigan. The service is fantastic and they also make a bunch of tasty spirits that they like to have you sample. I went back and bought many bottles of beer and knickerbocker gin and zeppelin bend whiskey. I highly recommend this place to everyone.

Great vibe to this place. I've been several times and the atmosphere and look it the bar/eatery area. Lots of polished wood give it a clean feel. I'm always a fan of being able to see the brewing equipment when I visit and eat at a brewery. I went last over St. Pats weekend so it was packed inside. The noise was still not over powering and there was plenty of room for all. The only knock is the limited parking downtown.

Service was spectacular given how busy they were. We got seated at the bar, ordered a few beers and food. The beers came quick and the good about 15 min after. Again being packed to the doors this was fantastic work from the kitchen area.

They had several seasonals to go along with the mainstays. They also offered 4 different cask selections as well. Dragons milk was available on tap and on cask! Very cool to see a wide variety of styles and presentations.

Overall a must visit for beer folks headed to the west side of Michigan.

New Holland is yet another high quality Southwest Michigan Brewery. I live about an hour away in Kalamazoo, and although I have consumed many New Holland beers here in town, I have only been to the actual brewery twice. They have recently done some renovating and the facility is really nice. Along with their large indoor seating area, they also have a beer garden in the back and a patio in the front. New Holland’s beer is all good to great and the food was very good as well. The wait staff was very friendly and very knowledgeable of their beer. The waitress knew every beer, what style they were, and could describe them all in detail. The one issue with New Holland is since it is right downtown with no real parking lot of it’s own, finding parking can sometimes be an issue, especially in the summer. Holland is a resort town in the warm months and can be crawling with people in the season. New Holland is a great place to visit if you are in the area.

Atmosphere: Located in downtown Holland (8th St.), it is a pain to park, most days. There is ample indoor and outdoor seating. There is a processing vessel that is in use in the main brewery room so you get to see some of the brewers doing work inside the facility. Most of the equipment is in a different part of the production facility or offsite completely, I'm not sure. There are two family bathrooms and they don't kick out kids, as long as they are accompanied, so travelling/visiting with children isn't an ordeal. There are tables and high top tables inside for a variety of seating options (including the outdoor options in nice weather). The "chalkboard" is digital and is clearly displayed and can be seen from everywhere, which is nice, because you don't have to keep asking your server what's on tap. They also have a nice what's on tap menu (paper).

Quality: Although this isn't a farm to table place, a lot of attention was paid to the quality of the food, and the beer presentation. I always appreciate proper glassware and New Holland used proper glassware on the flights. The food was excellent (I had the olive burger and my companion had the black and blue salad), the beer was fresh and we were happy with meals and drinks.

Service: Beyond my expectations. Our server was pleasant, made great suggestions and when I asked about the beer, she fetched one of the brewers and he spoke to us for 20 minutes about the beer. They made us feel like we were important and valued guests and after also talking to the head distiller we ended up buying some of their artisan spirits as well. Tremendous all around.

Selection: I was disappointed that there were none of their sours on, I feel this should be a year round thing since Jolly Pumpkin is the only other steady sour producer in Michigan. Nice cross section of beers.

New Holland may be my second most frequented brewery, given its proximity to the beach and its location in my favorite beach city, Holland. Service doesn't disappoint, though it does tend to get very crowded and the waits can be long. The quality of the beer on draft is exceptional, and the food selection here will demand a repeat trip. Very enjoyable place to relax and take in a brew on a lazy summer day in Holland.

On the return trip home from Grand Rapids after visiting Hop Cat and Founders the night before I had a slight buzz going still so we decided to see New Holland to round out the trip. It was about Noon and there was no waiting to take a seat in the second floor of the mid sized building. The decor was full of of old brewing equipment and paraphernalia that gave it a good vibe.

Service came quickly and we ordered a couple of beers, I went for a one off Bitter to keep it on the session-able side, very clean and refreshing. After returning with our drinks we placed our orders The Dragon Wings had some good heat to them with the dry rub, but since I'm more of a fan of the sauced wings I'll say they were a 7 out of 10.

The beer selection was great, lots of unique beers you don't normally see in bottles, but I would have liked to seen more in the bottle shop in front.. ah well.

Price was pretty standard for what we ordered, no surprises. Overall I'd say it was a solid place to check out if you are in the area or passing through for lunch but not some where I'd go too far out of my way to visit.

Love traveling up to Michigan to get away from Chicago once in awhile. This is one of our favorite places to relax. How can you beat fresh Dragon's Milk on tap. What could be better?Liked the feel of the place, it was clean and laid back when we got there midday.I love pretty much everything they offer. Food was pretty good too. Good service, great beer, and great place to hang out.

On the way back from KBS Day 2013, we took a slightly different route home to stop by New Holland.

The Atmosphere is nice inside. They reside in downtown Holland, MI, and it reminds me a bit of Arcadia in that the location is large and resembles more of a Rock Bottom type atmosphere than your typical smallish brewpub.

The Quality was good. I haven't had anything from New Holland that has really stood out to me, but they make quality beer.

The Service was what you'd expect. Friendly, helpful, and prompt with bringing orders to your table.

The Selection is solid, and what sets them apart a bit is the fact that they distill their own liquor as well, so you can try some of that as well, plus you can bring a few bottles home.

They have a Food menu, but I didn't try anything as I wasn't hungry. If I stop in here again, I'll make sure to order something as it looked pretty good.

Overall it was definitely a positive experience, but since nothing they brew really stands out to me, I wouldn't be motivated to specifically make a trip here. However, since it's on the way to/from Founders for me, I'm sure I'll stop in again.

Atmosphere: nice beer garden, spacious indoor area. so-so music selection. relaxed and comfortable but nothing above and beyond

Quality: I am not the biggest new holland beer fan but i feel everyone could find something to eat or drink that strikes their fancy.

Selection: in terms of beer i'd rate it more along the lines of average. most beer available here can be bought at a local store. good selection of cocktails and other distillery products

Food: good but not great. not a whole lot of sandwiches caught my eye. some stuff was killer, the calamari, but some was sub-par, black bean burger

Overall: cool place to check out. i'd like to try out there liquors next time though

The third brewery visited on family vacation 2013.

I walked in to a packed place. It's the day after the 4th, so most people were probably off work. Got there at around 130 and had to wait 20 min for a seat at the bar. Super cool place tho, long bar with a ton of tap handles. I am a big proponent of fresh beer, and new holland delivered. I had the sampler which included my choice of 6, 4 oz pours. I had 5 ipa's and dragons milk. With the exception of the farmhouse ipa (just not my cup of tea) everything was top notch. I had the pork belly sandwich, which I could've eaten at least 4 of, man that was tasty! Again, the place was packed, so I expected the service to suffer a bit, but the bartenders did their best, answered all my questions, and were extremely nice all around. (3F, why don't you send someone over to new holland to see how customer service is really done!). All in all, I will visit new holland every year from here on out when I drive through holland, mi. Excellent place, great time, good brew, and hey, they make their own whiskey also! Cheers.

Was impressed by the size of the building and the amount of people in the building. We were told 30 minutes for a table. We looked around the store and picked out a few things we were going table on our way out. We noticed a lot of empty tables and the hostess did not seem that worried about seating any of the tables. We counted ten empty tables that were clean with a full lobby of people. We found seats at the bar. it took about ten minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and another ten minutes before we had the menus to select beers for our flights. Thirty minutes later we had beer. We were impressed with any of the 10 beers we tried. In fact, we left some of our glasses with beer. They all seemed to taste the same. The worst was Monkey King....left a horrible taste in my mouth. The bartenders ignored us the whole time and never asked if we wanted to try something else. We had to flag someone down to get our bill and then literally push the bill in front of someone so that we could leave. They had 3 bartenders serving a whole restaurant and bar area. They were so understaffed and all had the personalities of a door knob. I have never left a brewery without a growler to take home until last night. And needless to say we did to make our store purchases. This place is all a bunch of hype and not worth the time or money. I will stay in GR.

Atmosphere: The brewpub is in downtown Holland and is pretty large compared to some of the others in the state I've visited. Copper brew kettle in the middle of the room with the bar on the right side (cool lighting of the mug club), large windows up front, and a beer patio in the back. Digital chalk board with the beers on it, with "old-school" chalk boards near the kettle letting you know what was in fermentation, and listing the spirits. Family friendly atmosphere.

Quality: To echo a previous reviewer, I've never been the biggest fan of their staple beers; however, I didn't have the same change-of-heart they did. I felt like the beers were all average to good with the exception of a couple. We tried a flight (6 beers, 4 oz pours) of the Imperial Hatter, Poet Oatmeal Stout, Smashley Pale Ale, Red Tulip, Ryeland Imperial IRA, and the Mad Hatter.

Service: We only got a flight. The waitress was helpful, but we didn't really ask many questions, so didn't ask much of her. For what she did though, she did perfectly fine.

Selection: They have a tiered system similar to some others (Founder's, Perrin). The tier 1 beers are all the beers they bottle and you can purchase anywhere (Mad Hatter, White Hatter, Cabin Fever, Monkey King, Sundog, the Poet). The tier two beers were the specialty ones and included the Smashley Pale Ale, Red Tulip, and a beer that was made in their brewery by someone who won a homebrew contest (Deadliest Catch Double Milk Stout - wish I had tried this). The last tier was the high gravity beers and others: Imperial Hatter, a barleywine, and something else. They also make their own spirits if you're into that. I wish there were just more options that weren't mass produced available at the brewery.

Food: Didn't try, but standard pub menu. The pizza the table next to us got looked very good though.

Value: Our 6 beer flight was $11.

Overall, a nice place to grab a good beer if you're in the area. The town struck me as a bit like Pleasantville. We were there during the annual Tulip Festival, so lots to see as we walked around town. About 15 min from the beach front.

Overall I was very impressed with my visit to New Holland BC. I'll be honest, I have never been much of a fan of their beer when I have had it on draft or in bottle, but I was very surprised on my visit. Great location in the heart of downtown Holland, Michigan. They are also in the process of adding a beer garden onto the back of an already awesome pub. Tried 4 beers, and all were great, food was not bad either but nothing fantastic. Environment was very clean, and classy. Service was fine as well.

Only real complaint was, they were out of the beer I really wanted to try even though it was on their digital chalkboard beer list. (Bartender said she doesn't know how to update it). Then, I wanted to get a growler to go seems how I do not live in the area, but she said they were out of growlers too! To top it off, I was going to buy a shirt for my wife but the only one left was the display, and they wouldn't sell it.

I wouldn't hold that rant against them though, and if i was in the area I would definitely visit again.

Positioned on the corner of a really cute & popular downtown street filled w. restaurants, outfitters, and specialty shops. The brewpub's layout is well designed: open, well lit bar room & dining room, separated by the checkout register & hall of swag. Enjoyed a 6 selection sampler (the poet, monkey king, BA dragon's milk, night tripper, white hatter & a seasonal), an appetizer, and a pizza. Service was friendly & prompt even though it was a busy Friday night. Food was quality. Beers were solid/average w. the exception of BA dragon's milk & night tripper which were memorable.

Awesome brewpub.
Got snowed in here last week so decided to stay in Holland.
Atmosphere is really warm and inviting. Brick walls, brewing equipment on display.A small mash tun and kettle directly to the end of the bar.
Beers on tap here that are only avaliable at the brewpub. The bartender was extremely friendly and great for samples and suggestions.
I tried all brewpub exclusives, MI nightmare-sour stout with excellent balance and body to match. The Saison was pretty good, nice, citrus notes, refeshing but nothing crazy. I also tried the Jasmine Pilsner, loads of jasmine intermingled with crisp biscuit really created a nice pilsner. I finished up with the Poet on cask-also excellent..well drawn cask ale and served at proper temp and carbonation levels.
..I cannot comment on the food as I opted to have liquid bread during the snow.
Prices were really nice. Living in Chicago, after moving from San Francisco may make all things seem cheap, but good draft pours for the value.
Great place, look forward to my next venture to see Grand Rapids, Bells, and Kuhnhenn.

Visited in July of 2012 early in the afternoon. Great mix of tourists, after work drinkers, and beer lovers. Staff is very knowledgeable about their beers, of which there are a number on tap and have an extensive sampling option allowing you to try just about everything they have. Pretty darn good food as well.
Reasonably priced, lots of people but not too loud or crowded. Fun place with nice people all around, and absolutely wonderful beer (including a number of new/limited release/hard to find ones). Obviously.
Definitely a place I'll be heading back to!

This brewery visit was sandwiched between Founders and Bell's. They do their samplers where you pick 6 from a menu and they will put the beers into a slot on the carousel. I had dinner here and it was good food that paired well with a couple of my beer choices.

New Holland has a lot of alcoholic beverages besides beer which a friendly native told me were also delicious but I have to take his word for it. The swag shop was open but small. They had beer available so I brought some harder to find varieties home with me. Prices in the shop were reasonable.

I spent a couple hours wandering Holland while sobering up and found the whole town to be quite attractive.

Ate lunch and had beers with a group of friends.

Great brewpub setup, with a bar room, a dining room, seperated by a merchandise room where you can buy to-go beer and swag.

Beer quality was excellent, as the group was beer lovers and was impressed by all the beer sampled. A nice wide variety of beer available, and handily split into flagship, high gravity, barrel aged, sours, etc. All styles well done.

Our server was friendly and offered suggestions. Food was very good, and prices were reasonable.

Definitely would recommend

A: The atmosphere of this place is exceptional in my eyes. A large brewery bar has plenty of areas for seating, including separate great rooms and an upstairs area. The bar is long where you can sit and get a beer. The taps are all decorated with the beers logo and easily identifiable.

S: The service was short when I went, but the bartender was hustling to a point where we didn't notice. He was serving food to all the tables and serving drinks, impressive.

S: With an extensive list of beers, this place will have everything you're looking for. They have exclusive NHB beers as well as all the keystone brews.

F: This was by far the most surprising part of this place. The food was excellent, like best place in the area good. I had the pizza and thought it was excellent.

If you are on 31 going up the lakeshore in Michigan, do yourself a favor and stop in. If you are even near G-Rapids you should make your way over, even with the other impressive breweries in the area.

Living in West Michigan, I am a Founders man through and through. Despite this fact, I thought I would check this place out also. Seating space being the only knock on Founders Brewing Company that I can think of, this was a welcome site and I LOVED the fact that they had a balcony! The problem was the beer itself... I have been spoiled for too long already by Founders flavorful repertoire! Compared to Founders, New Holland Brewing Company only holds a dim candle to it. New Holland beer is a bit week if you ask me, but if I am only reviewing the tap room itself, it is a STELLAR place to enjoy a microbrew and I recommend it to anyone. Stop by for a taste!

This is a fun little brewery in the small town of Holland, Michigan. They distill their own spirits in addition to brewing several beers. I’ve had most of their regular line-up by this point and have really enjoyed the Hatter series (Imperial Hatter, Farmhouse Hatter, Black Hatter, Smoked Hatter… I might be forgetting a few or twisting their names around) as well as their Poet stout in its many variations (such as cask-conditioned, available at times at the bar). The brewery carries their full line-up as well as their high gravity series on tap, and a few one-offs for the curious. Prices are reasonable for the most part and they’ll give you a taste of something even if you’re just looking at the board! Very attentive.

I’ve only visited at night and midweek (Sunday – Thursday) so I don’t know how weekends are. There’s usually a good number of college-aged folks here but enough of a range so I don’t feel so out of place. Servers tend to be drawn from the same demographic and are, for the most part, knowledgeable—although the young lady working the gift shop was clearly starting out and needed some Beer 101.

I’ve never had a meal here, just snacks and pub cheese, so I can’t really comment on the quality of the food.

The low point of my last visit was when I accidentally knocked over my pour as I was reaching for something. The high point came when the server asked what I was having and said not to worry about it. Wow, how nice! It’s things like that which keep me coming back when I visit.

Stopped in at New Holland on December 27 while visiting Michigan over the holidays. The restaurant is attached to a small gift shop with regular items such as glassware, t-shirts, hats, and signs. The restaurant itself is of a moderate size with a bit of a modern feel. Plenty of tables and a long bar. Loads of stuff on tap, including regulars as well as draft-only items. (They also have their house liquors available.)

Service was good. The waiter was friendly and prompt and seemed to know a fair bit about the beers, which is always a plus. Nice visit and a place I would certainly visit again. The pizza was good, though not great.
