Went pre happy hour around 4ish. One cozy bar and another longer one. No TVs or music. Service was good. Had a burger which was amazing. Recommend the horseradish sauce with the fries. Other than their beers not to much selection. Draft or otherwise. Overall good vibe, would visit again.

Another catch-up rating from my DC trips. Not a bad walk from where I was staying. place was small and kind of tight. Busy on a weeknight. Food was good. Good selection of taps. Younger, hip crowd, but that's probably a reflection of the neighborhood.

Awesome. Service and atmosphere can get a little dicey when the DC crowd hits on weekends but it's a great place to drink great beer.

Had lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Vibe was very cool, lots of art and decoration on the walls. Service was prompt and helpful. Food was incredible. Beer selection is atypical- the menu focused on low abv belgian-style brews, though they were all enjoyable. Great choice for earlier in the day if you plan on making other beer stops later on.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch and to try their beers during our 2-week pub crawl. The pub is located in a storefront setting in a busy retail area with street parking as the only option that we saw. Four long tables were set up on the deep sidewalk at the front of the building, but we chose to sit inside. It was late morning and the lunch crowd had not yet started to arrive, so service was very good. The interior has a very nice pub vibe to it with exposed brick walls.

There were 10 beers on the menu, and we chose half pours of 4 of them so we could try to get an overall evaluation of the beers. The selection was exciting to see farmhouse ales (hoppy or wild versions), a dry-hopped Berliner Weiss, a grisette, and several standard-type styles. We enjoyed all 4 of our beers, and gave an overall B grade to them. The notable one was the Blanc Slate wild farmhouse ale, but the Bird of Paradise wild ale and the Baron Carvo Rustic Bier de Garde were close behind. Beside the house beers, there are two guest cider taps and 21 guest bottles/cans including 3 more ciders. A full cocktail bar with a wine list is also available.

The food menu was exciting with unusual selections, and the dishes that we ordered were very good. We actually gave the food a slightly higher grade than the beers (that comment is not meant to demean the beers). If I lived around here, I'd spend all of my time enjoying this place. Highly recommended.

We went here because it's close to the 930 Club. Enjoyed trying their beer, and we each found one we really liked- Ornette and Ardennes Horse.

A good sized restaurant inside, standard vibe for a trendy DC neighborhood, seating in front and a bar in the back. It was very crowded when we were there, but we still got seated in about 45 min, as promised. The beer is likely the best and most interesting in the DC area and their selection here is quite good. The service was great, especially considering how busy they were. Food was very good as well, they live up to the high standards of the restaurant scene is this part of the city. Definitely a must stop for any beer oriented visitor to the city.

Visited on a Friday afternoon. Almost empty when I sat at the front bar around 3:30pm.

V - Don't let this part of town dissuade you from a visit. Very nice inside., but doesn't let off a big beer vibe. Bright enough. Clean. Open. New. 4

Q - Clean and appropriate glassware. Straight from the brewery. Can't beat it. 4.25

Ser - Friendly, polite and informative. When the bartender changes out they should inform you, 4.25

Sel - A good selection ranging from grisette and saison to porter and a strong ale. The highest Right Proper beer had an ABV of 7 which is somewhat unusual for these days but refreshing and exactly what I was looking for. Also a good selection of guest taps (look at the back of the beer menu). 4.5

Great brewpub in the Howard University area. 8 beers or so, mostly of farmhouse/belgian styling, paired with a cool locavore styles menu. If you like funky beers paired with funky cheeses, the cheese counter will definitely cater to your palate. Beers were all great, with tasty food as well. Expect a wait during peak times, super close to Shaw/Howard U metro stop.

Fantastic little spot with funky, yet dialed-in beers brewed on premises. Draft list leans towards farmhouse saisons and sours, but they also deliver on deliver on hoppy pales. Cool vibe inside, but better yet, sit outside on a nice day. Also verrry reasonable prices. Best brew we had was Kick, Kick Snare, which was stellar.

EDIT: I'm looking through some other reviews and I should add that RP does offer half-pours, which is always great and seems to be a new option for them. I also disagree with the last reviewer's assessment that this place is too "hip." In my short visit I felt nothing but welcome and there were patrons representing just about every demographic on the map - hipsters, sure... but also business school bros, groups of gals, beer nerds, a middle-aged couple with two kids and a dog...

Ive been doing "the beer thing" for quite a long time. This was the first time I ever felt unwelcome at a brewery/brewpub establishment. I guess its not entirely fair to judge a place based solely on its patrons but man this place is HIP. My buddy gave me the look and we were gone before we could even properly enjoy a pour.

Come here for the food - and the cheese selection. Yes, the beer is good too, but our server stated that they do not offer smaller sampling pours, which was disappointing. You can request to taste the beer, one by one, but when I go to a brewery, I really enjoy ordering a variety of the beer. The beer that I did get, Range Life, was good, but it would've been nice to try others. The food really made this place stand out. I suggest ordering a bunch of the "Sharesies" - the best of which were the brussel sprouts in a thai chilli sauce. Yum!

Great place! Had dinner there a few nights ago. The server was super nice and helpful, getting samples etc. Food was great (had the pulled pork) and the beer was good too! Definitely one of the better hangouts in DC.

The place is lively and has a good vibe. The food is very good and the beers are very good. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is in the nation's Capital!

Revisited 7/21/18

Still a great place for sour beers, but I felt the food had gone south considerably.

Cole Slaw. I want to talk about cole slaw, which is amazing and obviously well thought out by whoever is doing the food. But what about the beer? So far, of my wandering, this is the absolute best sour/native-yeast/phenolic/fruity/lambic/wild yeas/tripel styles of brewing I've seen. Mecca status. Worth going to for itself. That wonder of wild yeast is here without any of the nastiness. I don't know how they do it, but I come to DC about twice a year and this will be a regular stop. Wow.

Came here for a beer after an excellent food tour through the U Street/Shaw neighborhoods. Was really excited to find a place serving farmhouse style beers in DC. Found immediate seating at the second bar. Bartender greeted us quickly in an unenthusiastic manner. Seemed annoyed when I asked to taste the raised by wolves and bringing in the sheaves. Liked em both and ordered the sheaves after being asked if I knew what I wanted yet in a condescending manner. Poured in a wine flute and had some serious foam issues coming from the taps. Ended up with a pretty short pour for a $5 12oz farmhouse ale. Nearly Half the flute was foam. Beer was good but didn't like the attitude of bartender who was totally disinterested in service and ended up charging me for a $6 raised by wolves when it I had a $5 Sheaves. Didn't bother correcting the ticket and got out of there wishing there was some element of customer service rather than the customer seeming to be a burden. Highlight of the place was the laser pandas and fox mural on one of the walls. Left thinking the beer had real potential but I wouldn't bother going back. Not an Upright, Logsdon or Jester King although I got the impression they think they are.

This is a hip gastropub brewery near Howard University. There is seating on the patio, inside at tables, and inside at the bar. Service was good all night. They had 9 of their own beers on tap and a few guest taps. They also have a solid selection of bottles and cans. The beers I tried were all of great quality and served at a good temperature. The hamburger was quite good too. I would definitely recommend a stop in here if you are in the area.

My first brewery since the move to D.C. I'm not sure I could like a city brewery much more. Besides the usual complaints of no parking, not much else to complain about. On a Saturday night, we were able to walk up and sit down at one of the outdoor tables with our dog, always a plus. Every beer offered was good to very good, nothing blew me away, but they didn't have their revered berliner on tap. We tried the chips with pickle dip and the chicken sandwich, both were good and exceeded most brewery/bar food.
