Lock 27 Brewing's signature India Pale Ale, this Midwest style IPA combines the citrus hop flavors of the West Coast with the earthy malt backbone of the East Coast. Well balanced, the hop aroma is pleasant but not overwhelming. Named after a canal boat involved in a legendary Miami Erie Canal scandal, Mouth Breather is scandalously delicious and authentically different.

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high frothy white head that died down but never completely faded away.
S: Moderate aromas of caramel and orange citrus are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of sweet caramel malts along with notes of citrusy hops. Only a slight amount of bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation and hints of crispness and bitterness.
O: This beer is very interesting and does a nice job at balancing the characteristics of both an East Coast IPA and a West Coast IPA.

Purchased from Kroger for $1.69 as a single can. Poured into a nonic pint glass.

L - Crystal-clear light amber with a one-finger pale white head.
S - Pine, honey, guava, and caramel. A bit of burnt sugar on the end.
T - Sweet up front, with a sort of brown sugar taste to it. Notes of pine sap, grapefruit, passion fruit, and juicy orange.
F - Heavy for an IPA. Juicy. Smooth-bodied, with minimal carbonation.
O - A mighty juicy IPA indeed! Definitely on the heavier side of the spectrum, this IPA is satisfying from start to finish. Will likely not buy again, as it wasn't a really "wild" IPA, but it gets the job done at a slightly higher ABV.

Every time I go out to Dayton to visit my college buddy I try to sample plenty of the local brew, which has improved mightily over the past decade or so. This was a new brewery for me and my can says 7.2 % abv, for the record. Strong bitterness and a juicy, favorful finish make this better than average for the style. You don't taste the relatively high abv, which is a bonus.

I'm trying this at the Centerville location. It poured a clear golden with white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had faint tropical fruit peel notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet malt balanced with fruit hop presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

Compared with Head Shrinker and Hop Stoopid...both DIPAs.
Mouth Breather tastes more like a regular IPA. Not a double/imperial.
Not a bad IPA...just not a DIPA.
