St. Arnold Bock offers very good clarity and a small amount of foam that falls apart quickly. The aroma of this beer is sweet, bread- like, and grainy, with a touch of fruitiness. The beer offers the tastes of caramel, toasted bread, apples, and some roasted malt. There is little hop character in this beer as the taste of the sweet malt dominates.
St. Arnold Bock is a clean- tasting brew that offers a good flavor that is generally satisfying, even if not very adventurous or memorable. It is made in the German bock tradition and it contains no ingredients other than the basics: Malted barley, hops, yeast, and water.
This beer is a little milder than some of the classic bocks on the market and its taste tends toward the sweet side. The aroma of bread and grains is enticing, but the taste that follows is milder than you might expect. Not to say that this is a bad beer because it isn't. It is actually a good bock beer, even if it doesn't rank close to the world's finest.
St. Arnild offers many seasonals and this is one of the brewery's good, but not necessarily great seasnal products. Still, it is worth the occasional sample and it does have enough positive qualities to recommend.

A: Light copper brownish color. Thin ring of head
S: Rich malty goodness. Bready. Slightly grainy
T: Caramel. Slight astringency.
Mouth...Aw heck I can't finish this review. It's not a real traditional bock, but it's a good interpretation of it to me. Absolutely delicious and refreshing on a hot Texas day.

The beer pours a brown color with an off-white head. The aroma is pretty good. I get a ton of malt, mainly toffee and some bready malts. Just what I expect in a bock. The flavor is more of the same. There is a nice caramel and toffee backbone to the flavor. The alcohol is not noticeable. There is some slight hop flavor, but the beer is pretty sweet overall. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A nice bock.

Pours out a transparent red-brown with a one finger white head, no lacing. Smells like a bock with a good scent of roasted malts. Slight hint of chocolate malt. Taste is probably the best bock I've ever had. Which isn't really saying much, but still noteworthy. Has a big malt front, with that bock sourness. Then a unexpected hop bite at the end. Very balanced. The mouthfeel is nice as well, just enough carbonation.
Like I said, this is the best bock I've had as to date.

Poured into a pint glass from a 12oz brown bottle, no best by date. This is from the 2008 batch and has a reddish deep rust color with a ferocious head. It billows up from the beer in a light khaki color and almost flows over the glass. The head then dissipates down to almost nothing except a thin layer of bubbles that hides the surface of the brew.
Smell is sharp, malty and sweet but a little on the thin side. In fact the scent doesn't reflect the big malt flavors. The taste of this beer is all solid malts, sweet yet savory. There is a mid hop bitterness to the aftertaste but it is eclipsed by the maltiness. There is very nice carbonation that keeps that layer of head for the entire glass and adds a nice bite to the mouthfeel.
Smooth and clean, this beer is easy to drink and nice example of the bock style.

Appearance: It's very clear and reddish amber color that's reminiscent of fall leaves. Oddly enough, it's a Spring Bock. But, looking at it reminds me of fall. I digress. Sitting atop is a two finger, foamy off-white head. It dissipated pretty quickly and left a light spotting of lace behind.
Smell: It's above average, but a little too weak to attain a better rating. Clearly, it's malty in character. Caramel/toffee malts are sweet and blend well with light spice and dark fruit fragrances. It has a yeasty or biscuit-like aroma toward the end.
Taste: Now this certainly tastes more like the spring beer I expected, but does feature some fall characteristics once again. Caramel/toffee malts are sweet and give it an excellent base. There light notes of cinnamon and brown sugar. It's lightly hopped and has just enough of a bitter kick to balance it out more than I expected. Light dark fruit is noticeable (mostly a light plum flavor). A bit yeasty toward the end. Finishes dry.
Mouthfeel/Drinkability: It has a very light feel to it and features excellent carbonation. It's very crisp and perfect for a warm spring day. Mouthfeel is much better than I anticipated. It's extremely smooth and inviting. Given its relatively low abv, I could drink a number of these.
Spring Bock is a damn fine beer. I had somewhat high expectations given St. Arnold's lofty reputation and this certainly met the bill. The nose could certainly stand a little fine tuning, but it's still a fine beer despite that small flaw. Certainly recommended.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass.
Appearance - Pours with a small head that vanishes instantly. A bit of lacing, but it's good quickly too. Deep clear copper. Kinda looks like a Yuengling.
Smell - Caramel malts and a bready smell. It has a lager-y smell, which I generally don't like (I have no better way of describing that smell, sorry).
Taste - The flavor is redeeming. Caramel malts dominate, of course. Slight bitterness, but I'd hardly call it a hop presence. Not sweet a all. Just caramel goodness. Has a very bready finish. Not sure if I like the breadiness.
Mouthfeel - To be honest, this is my first Bock. I don't know how thick it's supposed to be, but I'd like it thicker. Good carbonation, just a bit thin. Nary a hint of alcohol. So drinkable.
Overall - I'm just discovering the whole bock concept. I just don't like most lagers, but this is good. I don't know that I'd seek it out, but it's tasty and I could put a bunch of these away no problem.

Pours caramel/orange with 3 fingers pf sand colored head. Slight lacing & average head retention.
S: Grainyness, honey malt & boozeyness
T: Breadyness, some grains,brown sugar & caramel up front. Grainyness, brown sugar, & dryness follow as this warms up. Finishes with honey malt, some more dryness, a little boozey with a touch of pecans. almost pulled a 4.5
MF: Chewy, some syruppyness, low carbonation & great balance
Drinks pretty easy, a solid Bock

The copper color is good for its style. The head is lacking. As it pours, it appears to be low on carbonation (even less than its style). The smell brightens the senses and wants to make up for the lackluster carbonation. The first taste is a very good malty sweetness. As it swishes in the mouth one gets the hint of hops. After a couple of minutes, the taste becomes dominated by caramel. As it warms even more, caramel and almost a buttery taste takes over. This makes the drinkability rather disappointing considering the decline in taste is quite rapid.
